December saw the loss of 4 UK legends of stage and screen
Peter O'Toole star of such films as Lawerence Of Arbia, What's New Pussycat, Goodbye Mr. Chips, Lord Jim, My Favourite Year and The Pied Piper.
Jean Kent, who might not have been a grade A star had her moments in Two Thousand Women, the female lead in Caravan and The Browning Version. She also moved into tv playing Elizabeth 1st to Terrance Morgan's lead character in series Sir Francis Drake in the mid 50s. Jean also appeared in soaps Emergency Ward, 10 in the early 60s and Crossroads in the 70s
Though regarded as American, by perhaps most film buffs, I include Joan Fontaine, the sister of surviving Olivia De Havilland, as both had British parents and often played English heroines. She did films like Suspicion, Rebbeca, Jane Eyre and Ivanhoe
Though not an actor, sports broadcaster David Colman also deserves a mention. Simply IMO the greatest UK sports presenter of his generation, the 60s through to the 90s, David covered 11 Olympic games (mainly Athletics) and 6 football World Cups. Sadly his greatest broadcasting achievement was at the 1972 Olympic's in Munich, where covering the sport, he had to call on his journalistic experience and broadcast the event's of the hostage seige in the village, which ended in tragedy.
