Don't forget Conte's loathsome "Mr. Brown" in THE BIG COMBO. In my book R.C.'s most vicious hoodlum portrayal. Yet he still plays the role so charismatically. Likewise the hateful louse in I'LL CRY TOMORROW. Conte himself said he hated himself in that movie.
BTW: Is there any way Steve McQueen can't look cool?
Stone, "The Godfather" is a classic (I love it). It's Conte's performance I like better in "Cry of the City" (a noir classic). See it! And you'll love Hope Emerson.
In "Scarlet Street" Edward G. Robinson plays a meek man, but behind the scenes he has fun with costar Dan Duryea while reverting to his tough guy persona
Agreed, Joe. Actually all three of THE GODFATHER films are my favorite movie (I tend to lump them together). Just love the whole evolution of Michael's character: from youthful idealist to coldblooded gang czar to a sick old man seeking redemption. Can't believe Al was never awarded an Oscar for this cinema icon.
I own the DVD of CRY OF THE CITY (along with other Conte classics). Am a huge fan of the guy, though his villainy as Martin Rome is overshadowed by Miss Emerson's scary performance.
BTW: Love Conte's fadeout line in OCEAN'S ELEVEN: "Never the luck."
Super SCARLET STREET shot. Where the worm turns . . .
Had Eddie worn that look in the movie, dastardly Dan never woulda thunk to mess with him.
Did you notice that Dan D. Is sitting in Eddie G's chair?? Too funny!!!

I have seen that picture of the group before and its a favourite. It must have been taken during They were Expendable. I guess when there is the occassional question about John Wayne's height which sometimes happens around the Internet comes up, I guess that answers it as very tall.
