A Happy Anniversary to one and all! I can't believe that I was here from the beginning. It was a lot of fun with hundreds of images, which I hope you all enjoyed. It was a hoot.

We enjoy them. It could be a hoot again if people would come back.

I feel so privileged and lucky to be a part of this wondeful place. Thank you, everyone, who has made this sanctuay possible!

Here's my latest report from the TCM Film Festival, "Who Makes Me Laugh?" from the Red Carpet celebs: https://suesueapplegate.wordpress.com/2017/04/

Would writing about the film festival have been possible without the encouragement from my friends here at the SSO? I think not.....

Happy 10th Anniversary to the SSO!

Carolann and Chris Taylor, I am so happy I was able to meet you in 2010 when I attended a conference in Baltimore.
What a fabulous meal we had in Little Italy! And yummy seafood at McCormick and Schmicks!

Thanks for all you have done for us, Chris! (And Carolann, too!)

Happy 10th Anniversary to another of our founding members, Moira Finnie!

Here she is enjoying her day in the TCM sunshine introducing Touchez Pas Au Grisbi (1954) and discussing the "beauty of a well-lit black and white scene." Thanks for all you have done for us, Moira!

It was a lovely time. CA and I still talk about it. Thanks for all you have done from your blogs to snaring interesting people to come for visits to our playground. I am glad so many have stayed in touch.

Me, too, Chris. I remember how much we all laughed when we got together! Such fun, and such a good visit!

I still occasionally check out Silver Screen Oasis but it is sad to see the lack of interest these days. So few folk are writing articles or commenting. It is such a well constructed site, with subject headings easy to find. I can’t understand why people have drifted away from it. When I first discovered it several years ago, it took me ages to go through and read posts of interest.
I hope there may be renewed interest as SSO is a valuable resource.

Hi Vienna, I think the reason is Facebook. Many of us have our profiles there and are part of the SSO Facebook group; at first I posted there and here, but with the passing of time, I stopped posting here, because of the lack of feedback...Sad

I miss this place. Once is awhile I come by. With Facebook we don't have near the discussions we had here and that is too bad. While we get the occasional interview I wish we were here.

Even though I follow the group on Facebook, I also miss the discussions we had here - I prefer this type of interaction rather than just looking at pictures posted on FB or links to "here's my blog". What I find really interesting is that other group of hardcore film buffs known as "Nitrateville" seems to be just the opposite - their FB page has only a few posts by the moderator, and the members mostly post on their web group. In any case, I try to follow what everyone is watching so I can hear of films I need to seek out to view.

AHA! I thought there was something fishy going on here. It explains why:

1) The "Active Topics" link has disappeared from the top of the home page. This showed the threads with RECENT posts to the forums over a period of time, as opposed to the "Recent Topics" which displayed threads with otherwise UNREAD posts. Two related, but different, functions -- and we need both of them.

2) Video embeds have disappeared, too. Black rectangles have taken their places. No explanations, just plain black rectangles. The (still valid) links to the videos are there, but the videos themselves are not showing. Is something in the system blocking them?

3) A somewhat minor complaint compared to the above, but Audrey Hepburn's attribution on the quotation at the top has also disappeared. Could it be that we have gone back to an earlier incarnation of the site?

It couldn’t have been a previous version. Jeff worked very hard on getting this updated. We faced two choices: find a way to make the update work or find a way to archive it so that we wouldn’t lose the whole thing. Luckily it finally worked. Some of these things may be lost but we can still post.

I hope you will still come by. I hope others will stop by. We all agreed their was too much good stuff in here to let it get away.
