I watched Jeanne Dielman yesterday, expecting it to be an obligatory slog. Instead it held me, because there was enough mystery about the title character to draw me in and look for the differences from the first to the third day.
Normally I get fidgety during movies longer than 90 minutes, especially if they are official FILM CLASSICS. I trust that each critic who put this film on her/his/other ballot genuinely believes this is a great and important film. But I can't help wishing they had shown that much respect for Daisies (1966, #28 in the 2022 poll), which is also 1) a well-made film, and 2) hysterically funny.
