The Falcons on Saturday mornings?

Post by ElCid »

Don't know if this has been going on, but noticed The Falcon movies on May 4 and May 11 in the Saturday morning line-up. Is TCM going to show all of them in the Saturday morning lineup? Regardless, these are some of my favorite movies to watch and re-watch. Have them on DVD.
I think Tom Conway is better in the role than his brother George Sanders, but both are entertaining.
The Falcon Takes Over, May 4, is 3rd in the series and first movie based on Raymond Chandler's Farewell My Lovely. Good movie, but not a good representation of Farewell My Lovely. May 11 has The Falcon's Brother where Conway takes over the role. Have read that it was supposed to be the finale as Sanders wanted to move on, but it was so well received with Conway that they continued the series for nine more.

Addendum: Checked next few Saturdays on TCM Schedule and they are showing The Falcon movies, so maybe it will be a Saturday feature until they show all of them.

Even though I have seen it many times, I watched The Falcons Brother again. I was impressed by Jane Randolph. She also appears in the next Falcon movie, The Falcon Strikes back, which IMO is really well done. Harriett Hillard is also in it and far better acting than any she did as Harriett Nelson. Of course Ozzie Nelson didn't write or direct The Falcon Strikes Back. I think Randolph (who was in the Cat People movies) showed a lot of promise. She retired in 1948 or 1955, got married and moved to Spain and Switzerland.

Here is the list I have for the 13 Falcon films shown before on TCM:

- Starring George Sanders as Gay Lawrence
01 The Gay Falcon (1941)
02 A Date with the Falcon (1942)
03 The Falcon Takes Over (1942)
04 The Falcon's Brother (1942) (with Tom Conway as Tom Lawrence)

- Starring Tom Conway as Tom Lawrence
05 The Falcon Strikes Back (1943)
06 The Falcon in Danger (1943)
07 The Falcon and the Co-eds (1943)
08 The Falcon Out West (1944)
09 The Falcon in Mexico (1944)
10 The Falcon in Hollywood (1944)
11 The Falcon in San Francisco (1945)
12 The Falcon's Alibi (1946)
13 The Falcon's Adventure (1946)

TCM ran a similar Saturday morning series of these back in 2021.
At that time, TCM showed all of them except for 01, 02, and 12.

So far in May 2024 TCM has shown 03 and 04.
From now through June TCM has also scheduled 06 07 08 09 10 and 11.
So that leaves 05, 12, and 13 which they might show in July.
(Although they didn't show 12 in the last Saturday morning run.)

By the end of the month TCM should post the preliminary schedule for July so we can see what's up.

Thank you. Interesting they are not showing 05 (The Falcon Strikes Back) which I mentioned above. 07 and 09 are really very good and 08 and 10 are fairly good. 12 has Jane Greer in a singing role. 13 is OK.
05, 07, 09 are my favorites to re-watch.
