Eddie G. is fantastic and steals this Huston classic.

I agree with Eddie G. But also Claire Trevor as Gaye Dawn is amazing. Got to love the co-stars, some of my favorite charactor actors, Thomas Gomez and Dan Seymour and Marc Lawrence as Ziggy. The film is one of John Huston's best.

The entire cast is amazing. Thomas Gomez was excellent in his role of Curly.

I think Eddie G is fabulous in this film...but I don't know if he 'steals' it. Not from Bogie, anyway.

I do love him in this role and thought he did an excellent job in it...but he didn't exactly cover any new territory for him or anything....

I still favor Bogie in this film...but Eddie did do an excellent job.

Let's not forget Jay Silverheels as one of the two Osceola brothers on the run from the sheriff. He went on to immortality as The Lone Ranger's "faithful Indian sidekick" Tonto.

This one has a marvellous cast. There is Lionel Barrymore as the gruff old man, and each gangster seems to have some individuality.

I read once that this was a tough shoot and that Raoul Walsh actually directed the shootout on the boat. Does anyone know if this is true? (The souce, Carlos Clarens' "Crime Films" seemed a little hostile to this film and to John Huston.)

Not sure, but I Found this: The final confrontation on a boat is actually the ending to the book "To Have and Have Not" which wasn't used in the film version.
