Look at Crawford and look at Harlow in this last set.

As good as they looked onscreen, I've always thought that both of them looked much better in photographs (and probably looked even nicer in person). I find Harlow, particularly, to look kind of squashed and potato-faced onscreen, and think that she looks worlds better without the heavy makeup they put on her in movies. Photographic camera shots always seem to take some of the angularity out of Crawford's face, and she looks softer and prettier than she looks on the screen.

Concerning Ryan O'Neal: Was there ever a big, young career so heedlessly, egotistically pi**ed away as was that one?!! For my blue-collar buck, the answer has to be NO !

Love the Dietrich picture, and the Harlow one too, that's probably the best of I've Harlow look.

I generally don't find her attractive, though I love her onscreen persona, but that pic is beautiful.

She is pictured on the terrace of the Banff Springs Hotel with Mount Norquay in the background.
There is a large autographed picture of Miss Monroe in the lobby of the Banff Springs Hotel.
Mount Norquay is a favourite ski destination for world class skiers (I'm not one of them!) and was one of the venues for the Calgary Winter Olympics in 1988.
Banff is just 'up the road' from me!!

Thanks for the compass fix, Larry; I'll not deny that you about live in Heaven's backyard up there - I mushed in & out of Calgary & the Jasper Country a time or three . . I used to go fishing, drinking & bad-boying around with a trio of Sarcee fellas from one of the Reserves thereabouts.
They were so likable, and so shiftless, it was hard to believe they weren't Irish!

Judith, your observation of Harlow and Crawford makes a lot of sense. Both stars are naturally lovely in those images.

Klondike, I was never compared to the Eveready bunny before, alhough believe it or not I've posted over 500 images already. Yikes.
I agree with you about Ryan O'Neal not taking his career that seriously. He could have become a contender.

Myrnaloy, that Harlow image blew me away. The Dietrich image is a work of art.

Larry, thanks for clarifying which film MM sprained her foot while making. I wasn't sure between the two and just left it 'shot on location'.

Do you think it's possible that the no-nonsense Charles Bickford may have chosen such a simple marker for his grave deliberately?

Also, I think the photographer of Marlene Dietrich's lovely legs was done in the early '50s by Milton H. Greene for Life magazine. She would have been in her early '50s too and in fine fettle, clearly.


Lastly, does anyone know what became of Dion, Barbara Stanwyck's son, whom she adopted while married to Frank Fay? I'd read that they were estranged for many years, which seemed to be an all too typical and sad story for several of those kids who grew up in the Golden era of Hollywood.

The picture of Dietrich is a work of art (and Lang complained that she wasn't bosomy enough? His taste in directing obviously was better than his taste in female beauty).

That said: Sophia Loren...there are only two words to describe her..."Sophia" and "Loren".

The last I heard Dion Fay was working in a casino in Lake Tahoe in the late 60's. I understand that Frank Sinatra got him the job there.
When I was in Vegas in 1998, Ann Miller told me that it was FS, Jr. who helped him out and that Dion was in Jr.'s "entourage"....
But, now that Jr. is somewhat retired himself, I don't know what's the latest on any of them. Not that I care about that bunch anyway - as you know the Sinatra's are not my favourites - any of them...
Well, Nancy, Sr. is 1st rate but all the rest are sewer sludge!!!

I would love to know, however, what ever became of Agnes Moorehead's son, Sean (alias Eric)...
The last I know he was living with Paulette Goddard in Switzerland in 1978, along with my brother, Mark.
Mark died in 1998 and was long estranged from Sean.
And, Paulette lived alone, overseen by a niece (??) and nurses at the end but no mention of Agnes' son!!

Even Agnes' biographer, Charles Tranburg, couldn't locate him...

Moira, I think you may be right about Charles Bickford considering he was a down to earth guy, and although he had two children, most likely didn't want any frills concerning his burial.

Larry, thanks for shedding some light on Stanwyck's son Dion. Since Nancy Sr. was a close friend to Stanwyck it was most likely the reason why Sinatra helped Dion out.
If still alive Dion would be 76 today, and God knows where.
