The whiny thread

Post by Birdy »

I read over the good news thread to cheer myself up but it only helped marginally. I am really having a hard time - I don't want to get too involved but let's just say I'm involved with a realtor and a surgeon.

I appreciate so much the opportunity to watch all my old movies and escape on an oceanliner with a cocktail and my old friends. Thank you all for sharing that with me and chatting back even though I'm not as smart or as well written as so many of you. I have learned so much about film since I've been on these websites and appreciate all that you all have to share. Thankfully, I've recorded many movies so even if I lose satellite temporarily I have a back-up plan. (And you all know I love to watch my faves over and over and over...)
Birdy

On rereading that, it almost sounds like I'm in a love-triangle with a realtor and surgeon! That would actually be much more interesting than my real story which is more of a Burmuda triangle.

Ms B., if you can't come here and say "Rats!" or "Phooey!" (my personal favorite), where can you go? It's not whining to say you're having a rotten time of it. So many here care about the well-being of everyone, and whatever it is you are going through, you've got a whole team of cheerleaders to encourage or commiserate. Hang in there, and I hope your troubles will soon be over.

Are you SURE it isn't a love triangle??? well, phooey! :D

Birdy, Birdy, Birdy - take heart. These things always seem to happen in bunches, but all things must pass away.

Maybe we can use this thread to suggest to you movies that we think are especially escapist/cheerful/funny/dreamy/hopeful, etc.

My first suggest would be The Wizard of Oz, which shows us that there's no place like home, wherever that may be, and that wisdom and courage come in all sorts of packages. And then there's just about anything with little Shirley Temple, the Singing & Dancing Princess of Pluckiness.

There are so many more -- we've discussed previously films we find uplifting. When I'm feeling down, I usually turn first to Tracy & Hepburn, who show me that mature people can be in love, and can be intelligent, flirty, and even sexy together. To see young love, there's always Frankie and Annette, looking all enthusiastic, healthy and innocent.

Hi Birdy,
I'm sorry to read that the real world is imposing so painfully on your finely honed cinematic senses, though it happens far too often lately to each of us. Not that I'm encouraging blind ignorance, but have you considered taking a week off from the news, entirely? It can be refreshing and clarifying about what matters to you. From my own limited experience, the world really does keep spinning without our constant vigilance of its every burp, which can be a reassuring realization.

Now, if this were a movie with you as the object of desire by both a realtor and a broker, who would play you?

How about casting that real estate broker? A few who've played realtors in the movies that I can recall right now are William Holden, Lyle Talbot, Robert Young or...?

How about that surgeon: should it be Lew Ayres, Robert Taylor, Rock Hudson, Robert Donat or... ?

I consulted one woman surgeon once who reminded me of Hope Emerson in Caged, but with a German accent. I wouldn't let her touch me, oddly enough. Another reminded me of Donna Reed, (she was very good, but tiny and had to stand on a milk crate to do surgery).

In any case, I hope you'll be better soon.

Wow - what nice replies. Thanks so much for the encouragement - I feel myself slipping into blissful denial as I read! Some plans came into place yesterday so at least I have some dates in mind of when this, too, shall pass. In the meantime, I've got to let go and let God and blah, blah, blah. And sweep up the mess made by the kitten who just discovered housplants.

Moira - great suggestions. I'm voting for Roberts all the way around. Although the surgeon in real life does look a little like Robert Taylor, the realtor looks more like Guy Kibbee...and is a woman. As for myself, I'd have to choose Rita. After all, I can't be my usual supporting character role of Patsy Kelly in my own story.

Sorry to hear about your troubles Birdy. It's true people here are incredibly caring about one another and there's nothing beats a good movie. My choice would be My Girl Friday just keeping up with the dialogue takes your mind off things.

Keep hanging in there and posting here so we know your alright :)

Thanks for the suggestion - I love snappy dialogue.

Last night I watched Privates Lives, Shearer and Montgomery.
Always a delight!

An update - good news from all the professional advisors.
Still more struggles to go, but things are looking up.
Add a banker to the cast - who should play the part?

If anyone else feels like, whining, feel free to jump in and I promise I won't judge. I just called it the whiny thread because I do feel like my problems are solvable and so many people's don't seem to be. It sure is annoying working things out and waiting, though, isn't it?

She got a better invitation and is leaving tomorrow - whew! Just as I was about to ....never mind.

Seriously, she's a great old gal. I'm just not used to having someone talk non-stop. And she's a morning person...and I'm NOT. I did cook her a home-made dinner every night ( which I don't usually do) and washed all her clothes to take to the next victim - I mean visit.
