Larry, yes, I just saw that! Another interesting happening on this day, Natacha's divorce from Valentino in 1926 was finalized, as well. Not exactly a birthday gift I'd want.Vecchiolarry wrote:Hi,
Ironic that Natacha Rambova and Anthony Dexter should be born on the same day...
I'm sure someone on this board will find that interesting!!! (Rudyfan??)....

PT, I don't believe I ever came across an image of the three stars together.
If and when I do I will post it here.

Re: *CANDIDS*
Norma Varden! Another face that now I know the name for! Thanks!
I'm ashamed to confess that I never placed her as the Murder Victim in WITNESS FOR THE PROSECUTION, one of my favorite films, but I'm more familiar with her constant appearances in American '60s TV.
She has a lot of credited roles, but her Uncredited Roles would make a formidable resumé for many actors. Of course, I realize IMDB may not be correct or perfect - I find a few errors myself (yes, hard to imagine!) - but I'm thankful that such a resource exists.

Re: *CANDIDS*
Aha. I noticed that TCM seemd to have a lot of movies this morning featuring Naish, the black Irishman. There had to be some Spanish Armada survivors in his family history, don't you think? I recall him on a talk show telling about how he was born in a hospital (not always a given in his generation), and how the nurses thought he must be Japanese because he was so dark-complected in a sea of blond babies, and they read his name tag as "Naishi." Lucky for him he was able to build a whole successful career on that sort of misconception.

John Doucette -- always a comforting presence.
Mongo -- any pictures of another birthday celebrant, Rudolph Mate (1898-1964)? A few of his cinematography credits are:

He also directed a few movies, most notably D.O.A.

Re: *CANDIDS*
what a fantastic bunch of credits he has! I saw Liliom this last year and it was beautifully shot... lots of interesting lighting tricks and camera work... it's a great film.

I suppose he was concentrating on how in the world he'd light her so that she'd look beautiful. All in a day's work.Rudolph Mate (1898 - 1964) with Rita Hayworth on the set of "Gilda"
