Re: Mr. Brent
It would have to be. Couldn't be because of Mr.Brent, who always seemed rather pedestrian to me.ken123 wrote:TCM on 3/15/10 will be showing a number of his films. If I watch it will be because of the strong leading leadies.

Re: Mr. Brent
Wish I could watch for both the strong ladies and the wonderful Mr. Brent but alas, real life calls. I do hope you guys will post about all the wonderful films I'll be missing.

I recorded that this morning as well as Keyhole, neither film I've seen. What could be better, really? Kay Fwancis & George Brent and Ruth Chatterton and George Brent?ken123 wrote:Ruth Chattterton ( aka Lily Turner ) is a honey.

I hope you didn't miss Living on Velvet.
Quite possibly the best "instantly falling in love" scene ever.
Directed, of course, by Frank Borzage.

I'm having a wonderful day watching. I'm not in love with Brent, but I do like him a lot, and he's really not hard on the eyes at all. It was fun to see Bette Davis get kicked in her gludius maximus for a change.

Why not ?JackFavell wrote:Is it alright if I post some photos of Mr. Brent here? I have a bunch.
Re: Mr. Brent
I like the photo of him by the stream, which makes him look, well, human.
Brent is not an actor I've ever been able to stomach. He photographs so big and galumphy looking, and he always seemed to be trying a little too hard. When attempting to be smoldering, he looks more like he's trying to pass a stone. He had a very odd way of speaking, which I think may be ascribed to trying to supress the Irish accent (Stephen Boyd spoke in a similar, back of the throat, singsong way).
I do like him better with the silly little moustache, though, than without. His face is too blank without it.

Re: Mr. Brent
Oh, I do not mind Mr. Brent at all. He was not that hard on the eyes (although he did get rather burly toward the end, around the time of Spiral Staircase). He was rather wooden as an actor, but, as supportive eye candy for all the great leading ladies, he was fine. Hard to match up to all that talent he was up against on screen. He was certainly no William powell, but who was, besides William Powell?
He was a bit of a rogue and ladies man, if I recall correctly? I know he was married to Chatterton and had an affair with Bette Davis, right?
