Great for you, Moraldo. I wished I was nearer SF!

See what "Oscar" can do?
I hope the film can tour the world and then gets a DVD/Blu-ray release.

Moraldo - this is spectacular news! What an event this will be - dare it outshine the return of the 2012 TCM Festival? Lynn also posted the news on our board here, and Moira has a swell suggestion that the West Coast contingent of the SSO attend - think it might be feasible for us all to synchronize our schedules so that we can attend the same screening? I would be up for it!

Wouldn't one need three televisions to view it?MichiganJ wrote:I hope the film can tour the world and then gets a DVD/Blu-ray release.

I think the home theater HD projector would work. Bigger problem, where to put Carl Davis and the "band"?Moraldo Rubini wrote:Wouldn't one need three televisions to view it?MichiganJ wrote:I hope the film can tour the world and then gets a DVD/Blu-ray release.

Alas, there are no plans for a DVD or Blu-ray release anytime soon. It will probably be a few more years. However, such is not the case with WINGS! The new restoration is expected to be released before the end of 2011! Here is a note from Greg Nester posted just this morning.
"Just finished participating in the new restoration of "WINGS" - restoration of J.S. Zamecnik score for full orchestra - final mix at LucasFilm and release before end of the year"

Are you asking Greg, or are you asking me?
Here is much more on the WINGS story! This is huge!
"By the way, my job was to put the orchestrator (Dominik Hauser) together with the archivist (Jeannie Pool) and after his work (over 178 cues!) prepare the parts for the orchestra.
6 of the top brass players in LA (including Malcolm McNab, John William's first choice trumpet here in LA) and a great string section of top musicians all contributed to the results! Wish I could share them with you and the excitement felt in the room during the sessions, which by necessity had to go at breakneck speed but I feel certain that that aspect will come across.
I am looking forward to hearing the results and, finally, seeing the restored print.
Did I mention that they decided to CGI George Clooney's head over Buddy Rogers?? (just kidding of course)
My understanding is that it is being released on DVD before the end of the year (don't know about Blu-Ray) with a limited selected theatrical release after the beginning of the year.
The score is really wonderful and very taxing for the musicians.
There is hope to "take it on the road" perhaps with live performances.
Lets hope for the best!"
