From what I've been reading at various blogs, film preservationist Robert A. Harris is concerned that the full-length version (192 minutes) of The Alamo will not be saved. He is only allowed to accept corporate donations, and no corporation has shown an interest in donating the money. He can't even restore the shortened re-release version, 161 minutes, which is on DVD, and in danger of perishing.

That's hard to understand because everyone I've spoken to prefers the John Wayne version to the remake because the JW was more involved with the characters and why they were there than the new one that was mainly the final battle.

Re: John Wayne's THE ALAMO (1960) going going gone
This is so sad to see an iconic John Wayne film not being able to preserve for future generations. I for one is shocked that no major corporation is not taking an interest in this.
I consider this film one of my favorites westerns that the Duke did over the course of his Legendary Career. For not having the movie fully restored - future generations will not be able to enjoy the many epic films that Hollywood has made in the past. I just love this movie.
Richard ... thanks for sharing this information to all of us here.

If I had a million dollars I would save this film:

I can't believe the family is not getting together to save this film. If for no other reason than family memories, Patrick is in it, one of the younger brothers, and Aissa in the final scene on the burro walking away with Frankie Avalon and Joan O'Brien.
