The actor George Baker has died, aged 80. Though thought of as British George was born in Bulgaria
He's best known for The Ruth Rendall Mysteries, where he played C.I Wexford in one of the UKs top cop shows, however, he also had a noteable film career
He was one of The Dambusters, who went onto play the lead in the swashbuckling The Moonraker with Sylvia Syms. George also had an association with James Bond and was even allegedly considered for the role. He played Sir Hilary in On Her Majesty's Secret Service, even dubbing for George Lazenby, when Bond was undercover as Hilary. Later on he was a senior Naval Officer in The Spy Who Loved Me with Roger Moore, with whom he also worked with on North Sea Hyjack.
He had some good tv roles, like as an M.P disapproving of women in the House Of Commons with Penelope Keith in the sit com No Job For A Lady
