Oh lordy, I do love George Sanders. Makes me wish I'd watched The Light Touch all the way through this morning.
"Certainly, my faith is that nothing is worth believing in. My faith is faithlessness, and so is yours. If we give that up, what are we going to live by? Man has to believe in something, even if it's nothing."
and
"Dear boy, love is something that takes place before marriage, not during, and never after. For proof, ask any of my four ex-wives."
and
"When you ask for money, you're appealing to the most unresponsive side of my nature."
and, when confronted with a recalcitrant Stewart Granger, who doesn't want to marry Pier Angeli for her money:
"Face it. You must be willing to go that route. After all my dear fellow, men who marry live longer."

Geez, there's Norman Lloyd! Holy cow.

I was just reading at the TCM website that George Sanders and Mike Mazurki became good friends on this film, they seem so different, but were both interested in wrestling and other sports. Also both had Russian backgrounds. According to Mazurki:
"There were sides to him the public and many of his co-workers never knew; he was a man about whom volumes could be written."

I never even heard of this movie and you've made me sore that I missed it, too! :D

I should have recognized the title from my days of poring over Calleia's credits, but I didn't. You know there are a few people who put me off seeing a movie, and one of them is Stewart Granger. I should have checked the rest of the cast. Maybe I can find a copy somewhere.

I do the same thing. I'm not a fan of Granger yet he appeared in some pretty good movies with OTHER performers I really like.

Have you seen that wonderful 10 minute "biography" of George Sanders at YouTube? I love it. George should really have his own thread here...I thought he did but I can't find one.

I did see that bio, it really gets to me, actually. I think there was hidden feeling in George, and I feel so badly for him, especially after Benita's death.

I could have sworn there was a George Sanders thread, but maybe I'm thinking of the other site...

I'm trying to picture George Sanders and Mike Mazurki hanging out on a Saturday night. Somehow, I just can't.

Robert Wagner and Capucine in The Pink Panther:
George: "You've been avoiding me."

Simone: "That about describes it."

George: "You know what I think?"

Simone: "Yes. That's why I've been avoiding you."
