The Silver Screen Oasis

Great pix. I really like HIM as he's older, but I like his films when he was younger. The GWTW is probably my dividing point, a film I don't enjoy - but then, "enjoy" and "character likeability" are the wrong criteria for that film. I've often wondered if my jealousy doesn't paint him a nastier shade when he was younger and married my Lombard. I can't believe she chose him over me, anyway. (Forget that she'd had her wings for 16-plus years by my birth - I'm not going to let little facts like that cloud my judgment. I'm still saving a punch or two for Fredric, too... I wonder how many Lombard fans acost him to this day?)

Anyone catch the George Cukor installment of Schickel's "Men Who Made the Movies"? I ask because
I found this cute little ani-gif from Cukor's first movie, What Price Hollywood? and they showed this
same clip in the documentary.

It's the lop of hair! Falling in his eyes!

I find the picture with Joan Crawford most attractive.... because of his hair. And the fur ..... ruff! ruff!

I thought you might like that. It does lend an appealing, boyish quality....

Here it is again, at the signing of his Gone with the Wind contract...

One of the things I find so appealing in Gable is his imperfection, whether it be in his dress or his manner. He is not one to fuss over his looks and I love when his hair falls into his eyes or his tie is slightly loosened, his collar open just a bit. I always get the feeling that someone in the wardrobe and makeup fussed over him for hours, and then he went out and ran his hands through his hair and loosened his tie before appearing on camera.
