Re: *CANDIDS*
Joe, Jack insisted that when Howard Hawks edged him out of "Scarface" because the director thought LaRue projected too much authority to be believable as Paul Muni's henchman that he then suggested his old New York pal (and friendly rival for Mae West's affections) George Raft for the role. Personally, I never quite bought the story; similar to Bela Lugosi's claim that he suggested Boris Karloff for the part of the Frankenstein monster. Hollywood lore.
But of course Raft's refusal of the role of Trigger in "The Story of Temple Drake" did provide Jack with probably the best role of his career.

Audrey Hepburn. God bless her. A truly beautiful soul. An earth angel.
Tragically, it does seem one of the cruelties of life is that the good die young. So much more she certainly would have accomplished.

Re: *CANDIDS* FRANCES FARMER/LOOKALIKE
I send here a picture of french actress DOMINIQUE SANDA ( A gentle woman" by Robert Bresson ), where I see a stunning resemblence
with Frances Farmer, I just wanted to show , and in the same way, remember her to movie friends. She now lives in France and still in fims.[ihttp://www.incine.fr/media/affiche/medi ... a-5269.jpgmg][/img]

Re: *CANDIDS*
Stone, you are 100% correct regarding Audrey Hepburn.
Georges, the lovely Ms. Sanda is indeed in the same category as Ms. Farmer.

Golly, I have to confess I don't know who Ms. Sanda is. My bad.
But I definitely see a Tuesday Weld resemblance there.

That's a luscious photo of Alice Faye, Mongo. As for Tyrone Power...sigh!!! Thank you.
Re: *CANDIDS*
It seems right that two of 20th Century-Fox's brightest stars, Alice Faye and Tyrone Power, would share a birthday.
Here they are in Alexander's Ragtime Band, a wonderful film that I hope gets to Blu-ray someday.
