Interesting, isn`t it, how cartoon caricatures of today`s so-called stars lack the animation magic.
But then those celebs had character.
Um --- last I checked, my name wasn't Wendy, but I agree with everything else you said, including that They had faces then needs to be the title of a book.

There is a book by that title. The third-edition paperback from my shelves, well-worn and very well-loved:
