*CANDIDS*
Re: *CANDIDS*
The Tony Bennett I like is the crooner from the 1950s & 1960s. I recall "Rags to Riches", "Cold, Cold Heart", "Because of You", "Stranger in Paradise", etc. Don't like the scat Tony.

I'm with you all the way Mongo. I meant one of our younger members that responded. I think most of us over 50 would prefer the Tony of the 50's and early 60's. Can you imagine anyone else singing I left my Heart in San Francisco?
But then again, I could be wrong about that. I was pretty surprised at how many people my age still like horror movies, so who knows?

I always remember that remark by Robin Williams at the Oscar ceremony when Elia Kazan was slated for an Honorary award (1999, I believe): "I don't understand all the controversy about Kazan. I think we should LET LAINIE SING!!"klondike wrote:Ah, Lainie, Lainie, Lainie . . .
Every single time I behold you on film, the blossoming of your Brooklynesque beauty is yet more resplendent {and oh how undeservedly blessed was Mr. Sandler to even feel thine arms about his neck}.
I'd mumble more paeans to your celestial bounty, but 'twould likely require a bib . . and I do need to retain at least a scrid of my e-dignity.
I and the reference librarian who was my boss at the time may have been the only two in the state of West Virginia who got the joke.
Re: *CANDIDS*
That in turn puts me in mind of one of my favorite 4th-wall/inside-obscure moments from a modern sit-com: Tim Allen's character on "Home Improvement" is being irritated by the annoying drumming of a woodpecker in his backyard; when his wife chides him about his fantasy of revenge on the noise-maker, he remarks that he'd like to put the bird in the Walter Lantz Clinic . . and then quips at her over his shoulder that probably about 3 other people in America "would get that joke" . .srowley75 wrote: I always remember that remark by Robin Williams at the Oscar ceremony when Elia Kazan was slated for an Honorary award (1999, I believe): "I don't understand all the controversy about Kazan. Re: *CANDIDS*
Henry Fonda and Maggie Sullavan were born on the same day? Wow! What a coincidence! I did not know that!
Re: *CANDIDS*
Fernando, it must have been a double treat when the pair were married to each other.

Another shot of birthday girl Mary Gordon smiling and much younger.
We'll always remember her as Mrs. Hudson in the Sherlock Holmes movie series.

Re: *CANDIDS*
Good pic of Dennis Hopper. From all I've read, it sounds as though this may be his last b/d.
