Bronxie--some of the Italian actors in Two Weeks were also in La Dolce Vita, notably Mino Doro. I figure they were giving the cast and crew some notes on how to look decadent, Italian-style.[/quote]

Really?? HA!! No wonder they looked familiar!

Eddie and Claire together again? Does he throw her in the Trevor, er, the Trevi Fountain? I'd like to see that.

Maybe, but I think I'll wait awhile on that one since I don't want to pick on dear ol' Kirk Douglas too much.

Yeah, I know he did then, but since he got older, almost croaked in a helicopter crash, had a stroke, learned to pray to Someone other than that b***h goddess, Success, and say "Gee, I'm sorry" to the myriad people he bumped into and ran over during his climb to the top, he now seems like a kind of a sweet old guy who still gets frisky and seems to have most of his marbles. So, in the spirit of the season, I'm wishing the Kirkster peace and joy...or as much as you can get when you're 96. Besides, he is the last of his kind.

And he used his stardom to make some great movies, but it is the man's larger-than-life portrayals that have given me more mirth in my lifetime than a dozen comedians on a roll. I know I have posted it before, but I can't resist putting up The Big Story (1994) with the three faces (or is it phases?) of Kirk in all their Ace in the Hole stop motion glory. Please forgive me but I hope this makes someone laugh as much as it does me. The inimitable voice is by the late, great Frank Gorshin for each character:

Gee, I think I better unearth my copy of The Vikings again...

You can click here for more info about this great little short, Miss G. The short won a BAFTA and was nominated for an Oscar. I bet the winner didn't make people laugh as much as this one.

So glad you unearthed this gem! Moira, Kirk was a total charmer at the TCMFF. He still remembers the words to the sailor song he sang in 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea. There just wasn't any more room in the frame for one more iota of chin in The Big Story.

He is a sweet guy. The Kirkster deserves some peace and joy. I almost stood up during his introduction at the festival
and shouted "I am Spartacus!"

Thanks, guys. It's heartening to see others equally fond of Kirk Douglas' talent (and over-the-top moments).

Kirk is not my favorite actor. But I give the man some credit. He made courageous, provocative choices. And it takes talent to do "over the top" and not look foolish. Kirk Douglas could give lessons in the concept!
