Moira, forgot to mention that the Laurel & Hardy Thanksgiving pic was
a surprise to me also. I don't recall ever seeing that still in any one of their films, unless it was in a short subject.

Hi Mongo,
Thanks so much for the spritely off camera photo of Ann Revere, looking considerably more chic than her character roles ever allowed her to appear.
Image

Cliff Robertson's sad photo prompts me to ask if someone could please start to advise actors in their 80s to pass up the trip to that plastic surgeon? Wearing one's years with pride might prove much more novel than seeing actor's trying desperately to look "good for their age."

I love Rita Hayworth's smile, it's so sweet and genuine. She's such a beautiful woman.

I like the shot of Marilyn too, the one where she is naked underneath the fabric. When I looked at these pictures as a teen I didn't really see the beauty but now I can see it. At the end of her life she looked at her thinnest but she suited the extra weight, she was built to be voluptouous.

This reminds me of my mother. The lady who has been on a diet for as long as I'd known her, none have been very successful, she is a slightly plump 70 year old and it suits her. From her I have this grain of wisdom. 'There's no point trying to be thin past 40 because if you're thin, you've no fat to fill out your wrinkles' It makes sense to me.

Thanks so much Mongo for putting a face on Peverell Marley! :) I have always adored this splendid cinematographer. He made such gorgeous images like in DeMille's The Godless Girl. I didn't know he married Linda Darnell. It seems that quite a few cinematographers married film stars like George Barnes & Joan Blondell and Harold Rosson & Jean Harlow. Thanks!

Hi Ann H,

And, Lucien Ballard married Merle Oberon!!
He in fact invented 'the Obie' for her - a very bright white light that when shone directly onto the face erased all the flaws...

Moira, it was my pleasure to post an image of Anne Revere, a favorite of mine always.
Mr. Robertson does look a bit tucked although I believe he still has his own hair.

CCfan, that was a funny bit about the diet. It's not easy.

AnnHarding, it's usually difficult finding images of stars with their spouses. I was lucky with Linda Darnell and Peverell Marley. Peverell?

Joe, that photo above (with Harold Lloyd) doesn't really look like Gloria Vanderbilt; could it be someone else? I don't recall ever seeing a photo of her as a blonde, either. Maybe it's some other heiress of the day? Just wondering.

Judith, you are 100% correct. After double checking it turns out that the lady is Lloyd's daughter Gloria. I thank you.

Hi Joe,

Wow, that gargoyle in the Sophia Loren photo certainly looks like it's enjoying the view!!!

And, those pictures of Ruth Roman waiting for her son after the Andrea Doria tragedy brought home to me a lot of emotion.
I was there at that time and witnessed her reunion with little Richard. No one was sure if he'd survived and it was only about 10 minutes before the Stockholm came into NY harbour that she got the news he was onboard.. She broke down into Ann Warner's arms and the look on her face when she finally heard him call down to her could never be duplicated......
That's my only sighting of Ruth Roman.

My grandmother and I were scheduled on the return voyage of the Andrea Doria to Italy but of course it never happened...
We boarded the Ivernia 4 days later and passed over or near to where the ship sank.

Larry, I could imagine what Ruth Roman was going through that day. It must have been terrifying for her. Thank goodness all turned out well for her and her son.
And it is certainly something I'm sure that you'll never forget being there amongst all the turmoil of a disaster.

MyrnaLoy, I hought the Joan Crawford image was a hoot.

Dear Joe, as always your pictures are priceless. Thanks!!

I specially liked the James Gleason & Joan Crawford stills. By the way, the Crawford photo is from the 1930 MGM production "Montana Moon".

Those pictures of Ruth Roman brought a big lump to my throat, I would hate to be seperated from either of mine for anytime let alone worry that they had drowned whilst I had survived.

I never knew that about Ruth Roman, I learn something new everyday.

Briliant pictures as always

Fernando, thanks for the heads up on the Joan Crawford image. I didn't know it was a sill from "Montana Moon". It's always a pleasure to view a shot of practically everyone's favorite James Gleason.

CCfan, It had to be very traumatic for Ruth Roman and her son on that day in 1956.
Miss Roman died in her sleep at age 77 in 1999. Her son Richad is now 56.

Looking at the picture of the young Ethel Barrymore (IMO) it's amazing the resemblance with her great niece, Drew Barrymore.
