wow. WOW!!!!!

Thanks Larry for sharing these priceless photos, and to you, Lynn for putting them up for all of us.

Larry, was Nell's father as fierce as he looks in this photograph, or was it just the style of the day?

Larry, thank you for sharing your pictures, they are priceless. I've a lovely book called The Camera and the Tsars, full of pictures from Victorian times up until the Revolution, to see your pictures and know of your personal connection, it's truly amazing for me.

Thanks Lynn for posting them for us.

Holy cow! I am very curious about Nell's second husband - he definitely has the Romanov eyes and face!

Hi,

Many thanks to Lynn for helping me out....

My great grandfather was pretty strict apparently. Nell and Carrie never were fond of him after he married Estelle. Neither ever saw him again after 1902; and Nell only returned to USA after the old boy died.
She was very indifferent to Estelle, although I loved her very much....

Gabby managed to escape after the revolution through Finland. Most of the rest of his branch of Romanovs were all murderd by the Bolsheviks!!!
He married twice again and Nell stayed friends with him until he died. I met him twice - the only one of her husbands I ever met...

I don't know what happened to the picture of #4... I guess it might not have come through to Lynn.
He is the one Nell detested because he had the Pope annul their marriage. He was a Nazi sympathizer and Nell denounced him to the Allies (General Eisenhower). He had to flee to Argentina and died there in 1948 (under mysterious circumstances)... My governess always teased Nell that she hadhad him poisoned - Nell never denied it!!!! But she wouldn't have - she may have threatened much by never acted really.

Now was Gabby the son of Constantine Constantinovich, shown here? Very interesting family!

Hi Wendy,

Yes, he was the second son.... The picture of him on Wiki looks more like him than the one I've got. But, it's labelled as Gavril 1907, so it must be him...
Only his mother, two sisters & one brother and him suvived from the Constantinovichis.
Also, several MIchailovichis perished; but all the Vladimirovichis and Nicholaievichis escaped.
I think the statistics are that there were 58 Romanovs before the war and 17 after; so the Bolsheviks had a blood bath.

They were lucky for those 17 to escape with their lives. I imagine that they didn't want to leave ANYONE who could come back to claim the throne.

Dear Lynn,

Thank you for the Greystone sites... I haven't gone through all the topics on the first one yet, but will tomorrow.

There are some mistakes in the "History" section there:
1) E.L. Doheny discovered oil (the La Brea Tarpits) in 1890, not 1892.
2) Eleanor is misnamed Eileen.
3) And she didn't die - her sister did and isn't even named.
