Wendy, you do realize that the outfit Janis Paige is wearing was designed for her role in "Please Don't Eat the Daisies" in 1960 which was probably chic at the time

Joe, sometimes when seeing clothes that were commonly worn by well dressed women that included matching hat, gloves and even a purse, it seems as though the past wasn't just another country, but was another, more formal and fascinating universe than the present. Perhaps because of growing up in the country, it was always startling to visit our NYC family members and realize how important all that folderol really was to the impression one made on others. Now I realize it was important in my small world back then, but I was too obtuse (and too young) to realize it. Looking at that image of the Hopper boys and Janis, it looks as though she is having a fine time intimidating the hell out of them with her beautiful figure and air of self-assurance.

Btw, does anyone know if Janis Paige has ever been asked to do a Private Screening with Robert Osborne? Since she shows up at award shows like the Tonys from time to time, she may just be in pretty good health and I suspect that she has many stories to tell about her years at Warner Brothers, working with everyone from Bette Davis to Alan Hale, Sr., to Michael Curtiz and Edmund Goulding, and later doing Silk Stockings and beyond. I know Ms. Paige has done some recordings with the TCM Archives, which are the basis for the interstitial on S.Z. Sakall that appears on TCM, but she ought to be an ideal guest for RO, I would think.

Thanks for the info, Moira. Indeed Miss Paige would make an ideal guest on TCM as would Joan Leslie. I hope that TCM would take heed to this.

I agree, I would LOVE to see Janis on TCM!

Joe, it's just the juxtaposition of her highly fashionable outfit with the boys' dungarees and tee shirts....and the looks on their faces. If she were standing next to Gig Young or David Niven in a suit, or Doris Day in matching outfit, it would not look so funny to me.

I would make a Twilight Zone episode out of that photo, kind of like Enchanted. Highly fashionable 1960's New York Broadway star is dropped into the middle of Rebel Without a Cause or The Wild One. Comedy ensues.

Hi,

Janis Paige was one of the stars that I suggested be a guest of the TCM Film Festival, as well as Eleanor Parker.
Perhaps 2012 will see them out & about amoung us revelers.
Only 9 more months to go, kiddies!!

EUGENE PALLETTE (1889 - 1954), is one of my favorite character actors ... when he on the screen ... I love the way he expresses himself. I love to see more of his movies. Thanks for posting that photograph Mongo. That's how I remembered him well.
