Dear goodness!!! I'm so sorry to read about your mishap. Please do take care of yourself. Your doctor can see to it medically. All I can recommend is to rest yourself...and watch some movies. It's always interesting for me to see that when the woman of the house is under the weather...not up to par, how things fall apart in the home. Yikes!!! Again Allison, take good care!!

Once I realised the seriousness I went to the doctors and they prescribed some antibiotics to kill any infection. It throbbed yesterday but today it hasn't been as bad. Of course I've had to take it easier and haven't been struggling to fill my time.

Oh my gosh that made me laugh. I am so glad you had it looked at and it's on the mend.

I think that the combination of boyish concern expressed as a spiritual petition and his fascination with a dramatic moment at home indicate someone with a very interesting life before him! Thanks for the laughter and I hope your arm is less painful every day.

Thank you, he is a very perceptive little boy and has always said the first thing that comes into his mind which caused some amusing or awkward moments when he was younger. I would cringe if some rather portly person or someone with an interesting hair colour came our way I would try to move away rather quickly. Unfortunately it wasn't possible in church and that poor large man, I felt so embarrassed.

As he said to my mother one day in the care as they passed an elderly residential home 'that's where Mum and Dad are going to put you when you're older'

He's very loving, good at giving big hugs. I really don't want him to get passed that stage, I just can't contemplate him being a surly teen.

So, if my night at the casino wasn't bad enough today we find out the car my son was taking to Rhode Island blew the engine. He has to get a car since The Bride won't give him hers and let us buy her one. (Believe me it makes more sense.)

And it keeps piling on.

Was your son already on his way? Was there an accident when the engine went to car heaven (or the other direction, depending on how it had performed previously)? Hope there is a reasonable and quick solution...

Oh, heck, Chris. Why do I wonder if the engine blew in part because of highway driving at a higher speed than usual plus the miserably hot weather we have been having in the Northeast? I have had to commute a bit this week between NY cities and have seen a good 8 cars pulled over with steaming--and in one case--burning engines. I'm just glad that it sounds as though your son is okay and safe.

I sure hope this dilemma can be resolved so that everyone in your family has some decent, basic transportation. And here's hoping that you are appreciated for your help playing King Solomon at home (which also seems to be part of your "job description" here, now that I think of it).

It seems to me a father's job description just gets bigger a his kids get older, no doubt a mother's does too. Is your Bride fond of her car, if she is I can appreciate, Joe bless him would love me to get a newer car as at 6 it's the newest and shiniest that counts but I've had my car for ten years and I'd hate to part with it, a silly feminine feeling for a car that I have, so if your Bride is like me I do understand. Hope everyone gets their cars sorted out soon.

Nancy, no, there was no accident. The car broke a timing chain that bent a valve(s) so as the car was worth so little we are going to junk it.

Ian was here when it happened so he was not stranded anywhere. He's been in RI but was home to get the car and his girlfriend and then be on their way.

Moira, Ian is safe except now getting him a car complicates his travel and life.

Alison, Carolann is inexplicably tied to her 1996 Buick. There is nothing particularly terrific about it. I thought she was holding on to it just for when this thing happened so that we could give her car to Ian and get her a newer one. But I can't figure it out so I just keep my mouth shut.

You are right about one's duties as parents. As they get older they just trade smaller problems for bigger problems and consequently they become more expensive problems.

On the other Maureen has a brand new car and all is well with her. Except that I'm not sure how much longer she is going to be engaged.

Find me a seat by a river and make it very quiet and I might survive all this.

Chris, I still 'mourn' my wonderful old Buick. It was a 1994, as I recall, and it drove like a dream, I felt quite royal in it.
As long as you promise not to jump in, I'll find you a lovely, peaceful spot, and even make sure there are fish in it, if you are so inclined....
