Yep, Frankie was born in Hoboken. Could have been worse--he could have come from Bayonne. Just kidding, though I can't
recall anyone saying when I was a teenager "Hey you guys, let's drive over to Hoboken."

I am proud of my hometown da Bronx but every once in a while I long to say "I was born in Westchester" (I had relatives in Yonkers and was always so excited to drive there with the family because it seemed so "town and country" lol)

Ponder this: it just hit me the other day -- Forrest Tucker starred in three movies related to mountains. THE CRAWLING EYE, ABOMINABLE SNOWMAN OF THE HIMALAYAS, and AUNTIE MAME.

Yep, that was a pretty funny and wacky show, I always thought as well. Always thought it a bit of a shame that it wasn't picked up for a third season.

My favorite episodes of it being the one in which Paul Lynde played the Singing Mountie (that running joke in it about the pronouncing of "Banff" never failing to crack me up), and the one in which Don Rickles played the character Bald Eagle ("KILL the White Man! KILL! KILL!")

Wow, appreciate that info on Stewart Granger. Like you I always had a feeling the guy was an insufferable jerk not well liked among his peers. (I think Rex Harrison was in this same category) Seems Jean Simmons had a predilection for these kinds of men -- Richard Brooks was no picnic either.

Makes me appreciate Mel, if not exactly as an actor.

Ironic that you being up Granger and Harrison together. The last thing that both men did in their careers was to appear as two sections of a love triangle in a Broadway revival of Somerset Maugham 's The Circle. The woman they were both vying for was played by Glynis Johns. Imagine what she had to put up with in that run.....

My maternal grandparents were both from upstate New York. Grandpa worked for AT&T and they moved, first to
Staten Island and later to Westchester County. They were middle-class, so it wasn't a swanky part of Westchester
County. That's where I had my first Entenmann's crumb cake, the start of a lifelong love affair.

I watched F Troop as a kid, but I don't know if I would find it very funny today. WHTV on the DirecTV lineup
runs the same episodes of Petticoat Junction on Sundays, without ever changing them. They've done so for
a year or so. Not sure what the reason is, it's just plain weird.

Well, I DO have to admit that in my view there really was only one reason to ever watch that hayseed show.

The interesting thing to me was that brunette Bobbie Jo was the ditzy one, that was usually the blonde.

What part of Westchester? I had family all over the county. I don't remember Entenmann's in Westchester (I do remember it in NYC). I remember home delivery of Dugan's Cupcakes in Westchester.

Yeah, come to think of it here Jim, you're right. It does seem (and especially during that era) when casting for the "ditzy girl" roles, it was a blonde that usually got the part, huh.

(...and then conversely, it was often the case in dramas of the blonde being the "nice/good girl" and the brunette being the "evil" or "wayward" one back then as well)

Westchester is not upstate. You have to get to the 518 area code to get to Upstate New York.

Interesting about what constitutes "Upstate" NY here.

Ya see, just a couple weeks back we had a couple visiting us here in Sedona and who reside just south of Rochester.

When I made the comment that they "live in Upstate NY", they corrected me by saying that Rochester was too far west in that state to be considered in that manner, and that according the locals of their area, "true upstate NY" primarily consists of area further east and around and along the Hudson River Valley and points north from there.

(...I didn't argue with them...it's not nice to argue with house guests, ya know)

It's true that Westchester is not traditionally referred to as "upstate New York," more as suburban New York. But regarding Rochester, which is indeed north and west, although like Buffalo is in Western New York, it would be generally be lumped in with upstate, as would almost any locale that isn't New York City or the suburbs.

Fredonia is also in Western New York, but in common parlance, it too would be regarded as upstate. I'm not sure where Sylvania is.
