Rita Hayworth as Rita Cansino

La Quinceañera, (or sometimes mistakenly spelled quincenera) the sweet 15 party that symbolizes the beginning of womanhood in Latin communities around the world, is a dream of many young Latinas and their families.

Rita Hayworth Picture of the Week

This photograph is one of the most glamorous that Rita Hayworth did back in 1940.

The story behind this photograph that the Photographer adjusted for the wrong shutter speed and realized what he had done. So, when the photographer developed the film he was stunned by the alluring aspects of this photograph in resulting more light into the area that needs it and gave it allure that he wanted to show in the first place.

Mr. Cohn loved this photograph and used it to promote this film and his upcoming rising star by the name of Hayworth.

So, this is your Rita Hayworth Picture of the Week.

More Glamour from Music In My Heart

Mr. Cohn authorized these photographs to immediately to be used as promotional photographs to escalate Rita's Career because he knew that he had something special in Rita. He never thought that a year later that Rita Hayworth became a household name and a superstar of her own right.

These are most prized among collectors and the gown that she wore was very expensive ... my collector friend told me that this gown cost anywhere a ball park between $15,000 to $20,000 back in 1940. I don't know that is true or not ... but I was told that. More coming your way ... I need to do more research on it.

Blondie on the Budget - 1940 Film

This is a stock promotional photograph that was used in her next film after Music in my Heart ... called Blondie on the Budget. Mr. Cohn loved this gown so much on her - that it was used again to promote this picture.

Alternate/Modeling Photographs for both Music in My Heart and Blondie on the Budget

Many people in Columbia Pictures wanted Mr. Cohn to accept this alternate look for Rita Hayworth in both Music in my Heart and Blondie on the Budget ... but Mr. Cohn was against that and I was waiting for an e-mail from a collector friend of mine to confirm and my research was correct.

She looks so adorable ... and I would had approved this look.

More tomorrow.

Rita Hayworth's Glamour Gown in 1955
Part 1 of 2

Image

This gown is often gets mistaken for being a part of Down to Earth ... when I do research in the internet for Rita Hayworth there are hundreds and hundreds of web-sites that put this gown as part of that movie back in 1947. It is not, this gown is a picture that she did a modeling job and Mr. Cohn (he loved them) wanted to use this photo to promote a 1955 Movie called Joesph and the Brethren that was never gotten off the ground because of so many personal and legal issues that they could not iron out.

These photos in two parts were taken in Spring in 1955 that would make Rita Hayworth ... 36 years old in these pictures.

Rita Hayworth Gown in Cover Girl

This is one of my first photographs that I ever collected of her. And, its getting rarer and rarer these days and I often check ebay and other sources and nobody is selling it because it consider one of the most unique Rita Hayworth Color Photograph back in 1944 when she did Cover Girl with Gene Kelly.

I treasured this photo.

Rita Hayworth Gown in Cover Girl

My agent got me these photographs last year and I love them so much and I thanked him for getting these ... the black and white is an original and the color photograph is an colorized version. These are classics and so enduring ... I just love them ... the photograph in black and white was used as a promotional photograph for certain movie houses across the United States and in Europe. This photograph was even used to pass out to US Servicemen and Women in Europe to cheer them up.

I don't know if used (passed out) in the Pacific Theater of where US Armed Forces were fighting Imperial Japan.

Rita Hayworth Gown in
Angels Over Broadway

This is one of Rita's favorite gown to wear because it was so comfortable to wear and she wished Angels Over Broadway had a small stylish musical number so she can dance with it in the movie. She wore this gown pretty much the whole movie and she commented after the movie was made ... this is one of those rare movies of which I didn't have to do a whole a lot of wardrobe changes.

Rita Hayworth Elegant Gown in 1944
for Advertising Purposes for major companies ...

These pictures below is one of the most elegant gown that she ever wore to be used for Advertising Purposes and she loves the style of this gown. I heard it was very expensive too. Reportedly around $30,000 to $40,000 range.

Mr. Cohn (head of Columbia Pictures) like too ... but he was ranting a bit because he could not figure out a way to use these photos to promote Cover Girl.

The Gown got rejected for Blood and Sand

The producers, directors, and the studio thought that this gown worn by Rita Hayworth here was too modern and too stylish to be used in the Blood and Sand movie of which she starred with Tyrone Powers, Linda Darnell, and Anthony Quinn. Since they already made it for her ... they let her keep the gown as a small token of appreciation.

That small token of appreciation cost the studio $7,500.00 of which they wrote out as a business expense back in those days. That was back in 1941.

Blood and Sand Movie made Rita Hayworth a Mega Star ...

Approved Gown for Blood and Sand

This gown cost less to make than the one got rejected in the previous post ... $6,800.00. This gown approved by the studio. Pure elegance and I love they used the vase to make the photo more dramatic and romantic at the same time.

Since they made it for her to wear ... she ended up keeping it!

$15,000 ... in free wardrobe for her to take home!
