I utterly love how this thread is progressing. I usually watch on Sunday night and again on Monday morning to catch anything I missed or didn't understand. I did get a giggle out of something Lady Cora said to which Lady Violet replied, " Oh, she agreed with me, someone write that down". I've always liked Maggie Smith but I'm coming to love her more each week.

Things changed so quickly over the time covered by Downton, especially for the aristocracy. Only the quick thinking and diversifying would survive and keep their stately homes, if they are unlucky enough to have prodigal son who spends more than they should then it's likely the stately home would be either taken over or no more by the end of the 2nd world war. And soon they'll start to work out that the new world order has a lot more trouble in store.

I was happy to see Lady Cora give Lord Grantham 'what for' due to his aristocratic attitude toward the doctor with a title. I hate to say it, but as soon as the two doctors started arguing, I knew the curtain was falling for Sybil. Poor Thomas, I'm afraid he has a battle ahead of him in regard to who, where, and how his daughter is raised.

I hope that episode came as a surprise to all of you. I was shocked when I watched it, I hadn't realised anyone was being killed off, let alone lovely Sybil. I found the scenes quite shocking, every mother knows about eclampsia but too watch how quickly it took over Sybil and her dying on screen in front of all her family, I hadn't realised quite how distressful it was. Not the Earl's finest hour.

SPOILERS

Where Tim Piggott Smith goes, trouble follows! He's probably kicking himself... just when he gets over being the most hated man in England, he kills off poor Sybil.

I boo hoo'd right through that whole section... Alison, It was quick I think that's what was shocking about it. The actress who plays Sybil finally got to show her stuff, she did a great job in this episode. Cora really made me cry though, with her talking to 'her baby'. And Violet looked stricken.

I am enjoying how O'Brien is setting up Thomas. I have a strange sympathy for him all of a sudden. And then when he cried over Sybil, well, he's human after all.

Me, too, Jackie. She is the quintessential "evil maid."

SPOILER:
With Branson looking out the window and crying while holding the baby, it was overwhelmingly sad.

I loved the conversation between Edith and Mary at Sybil's bedside. The rest of the show should be interesting seeing those two battle it out. But I admit, I'm disappointed that Sybil won't be on the show anymore.
