DEWEY'S RECORD PARTY!
The end of 1969 saw Diana Ross and the Supremes going their
separate ways. But we hadn’t heard the last of any of them. Both of
these are from 1970.

Sorry to interrupt, but I wanted to put this one on while I had the chance. For some reason, unknown to me, this song has been going around in my head since I woke up this morning. Maybe I dreamt about it, or maybe it's the repetitive melody coming back to haunt me, but I take it as an sign from the gods of Rock & Roll, and I must obey. Here it is:

Hey Klondike...you mean these guys? That SoCal combo that
scored a dozen or so mega pop hits in the late 60s and early
70s and then pretty much disappeared altogether? Welcome
THE GRASS ROOTS back right now to the Record Party!

Hey Judith, you're never interrupting when you stop by the Record Party.
And what a s strange coincidence: I just put the DC5's "Bits & Pieces" onto
my i-Pod yesterday!! Really!!
Here's another one from the DAVE CLARK 5 that I really dig:

Speaking of the Presidential Campaign Cycle, the importance of The
GRASS ROOTS in a campaign, and the DC5 (see how it all
ties together?), Chicago has a couple of locals still in play. We can only
guess which candidate these two Chicago groups would have supported,
but their songs certainly touch on the campaign for President.

Thank you for the great GIL SCOTT-HERON, DJ Dewey.
Some more soulful sounds (even if one is from an Aussie).

There's an Ozzie/British invasion going on in my head this morning. I think I'm having auditory hallucinations; not so far-fetched considering my haywire inner ears, which have been bothering me lately (probably because of the weirdly fluctuating weather/air pressure here in NYC). Who remembers these?
First, the original HIPPY HIPPY SHAKE, by Australian Chan Romero, circa 1959:

Next, a 1962 version by THE BEATLES:

Finally, the one that hit it big in 63/64, by the SWINGIN' BLUE JEANS (this video is from some contemporary nostalgial show):

There have been lots of covers of this song over the years. Another one you can't get out of your head. Groovy.

Thanks for that great triple-play, DJ Judith!! Kind of put me in a
Brit frame of mind this morning. The BEATLES sure had a knack
for reworking American R&B tunes in their own remarkable fashion!

The Fab Four's Twist and Shout is actually my favorite of all versions.
I think I know what's happening to me, hallucination-wise. It seems my brain is involuntarily playing back my "British Invasion" CD set. I've lost contact with the Hippy Hippy Shake, and am now looping this one:
It's COME RIGHT BACK by The Honeycombs (1964). You remember them, don't you, the group with the girl drummer?

The BEATLES did a few wonderful re-makes, didn’t they?

It wasn't just the Fab Four who mined the vast treasures of American
rhythm and blues music...as these formidable British Invasion combos
so beautifully illustrate...here at the Record Party!
