Friends of TCM?

Just wondering if anyone else just got this email from them? It said they were checking valid addresses. I wasn't sure if it was in reference to the Message Boards, or email reminders and schedule alerts. I have noticed that my email reminders haven't been working for the last couple of months, and I missed a number of movies I've wanted to watch.

Good evening,

Funny, but now that you mention it, I haven't been receiving my email alerts either. Asa matter of fact, I didn't receive the email you're talking about now, and my email address is the same as it was when I first started posting back at the old homestead almost two years ago.

As always,

Hollis

I've missed a couple of reminders in the past, but I don't think I received a single one this month or last. Still bummed that I missed "The Kid" and "The Great Rupert".

Pat,

I got one, too. I have no idea what it means or what it is about. Wasn't the type of message I would expect for validating emails.

Should I find out more info, I'll let you know.

I didn't get a notice you mentioned and did get both my email reminders for Harold Lloyd the other night.

I've also been getting my newsletters regularly too.

I haven't seen this yet; I'll have to check my inbox when I go home this morning. But I have been receiving my newsletters and schedule alerts same as always, as well as the message board updates (sometimes these clog my inbox, there are so many).

I created a faux reminder for an event in two days. Perhaps they were switching servers or software versions, and were generating a few random messages to check on the correctness of the updates. I've certainly done that - find a UserID with a large quantity of emails sent to, and send 'em one more and see if it bounced back to me, and if so, when - an immediate bounceback probably indicates my failure, or much later would probably indicate theirs.

I got it also, it reads:

Thank you for your interest in becoming a friend of Turner
Classic Movies. We're finally reaching out to you in this
group; you can look forward to further communication soon.

For now, we're sending this email to determine if your email
address is still valid. There is no need to respond to this
email.

If you would like to be removed from this list, please follow
the directions below on how to unsubscribe

I'm glad I wasn't the only one who received this E-Mail.
But I'm still confused about what it all means????

I haven't received this, then again I usually dump my alerts in the delete box so maybe I did get it? Oh well....No big deal.

Chris (and others),

Be sure to check your spam mailbox (if you have one). Kyle pointed out to me that the email came not from TCM.com but from TCM.tv (which is likely TCM) but because it wasn't .com, your email box may have flagged it as spam and deposited it in the spam box.

Just a thought.

I do hope we get some response from them as to what this is about.

Thanks for everyone's responses. Thanks too to Bill for posting the email. I deleted mine immediately, but then thought of all my missed reminders and wondered if I was alone in receiving this. TCM.tv? Weird...

I'm not sure about this, because I haven't seen this one, but whenever I get an email from a sender who's email is ALMOST the same as somewhere I am registered, and especially one asking to verify my address....I DELETE IT IMMEDIATELY without responding or opening any links. These emails are usually "phishing" scams designed to obtain valid email addresses for further spamming.
2 yrs ago I got an email from "Paypal", stating my account needed to be verified, and I started to fill out the info, but then canceled my reply. A week later I was asked by my bank if I had recently been in Bulgaria, there were some small charges being made.....Silly, silly me.....
I think it is better to be safe, etc. Who needs to be flooded with spam????

Knitwit,

I'm still in the dark as to what the Friends of TCM is all about but
the email wasn't asking for us to respond in any way so it wasn't a phishing expedition.

The email reads:

Thank you for your interest in becoming a friend of Turner
Classic Movies. We're finally reaching out to you in this
group; you can look forward to further communication soon.

For now, we're sending this email to determine if your email
address is still valid. There is no need to respond to this
email.>>

By the way, www.tcm.tv will take you to the TCM website.

That's good news, I was really concerned that someone had hacked the TCM website. Thanks for the update, Lynn.
