Re: *CANDIDS*
When TCM recently played that old Dick Cavett Show interview with Bette Davis, Cavett asked Bette if there was one person she'd had to kiss during her film career that did not leave a favorable impression. Bette said yes, and while she would not name the actor she provided a tell-all hint when she said that he had the most unattractive lips (and later in her autobiography elaborated that none of the Warner gals ever looked forward to doing kissing scenes with this gentleman). Anyhoo, the person in question is in Joe's photo above.
Re: *CANDIDS*
Poor Eddie, no wonder he wanted to beat the crap out of Raft for Dietrich's affection. I believe she also made some disparaging remarks about Eddie.

Re: *CANDIDS*
Actually Joe it was George who wanted to beat the c*** out of Eddie. And one of the alleged reasons was because Raft thought Eddie had designs on Marlene. Poor Eddie indeed: He had about as much chance of winning Dietrich over Raft as he would have had besting George in a brawl.
Eddie speaks sort of fondly of Bette in his autobiography. Says he didn't much admire Bette Davis as an actress when they made KID GALAHAD (he thought her acting was too affected - which it kind of could be), but his opinion of her talents improved as Bette matured -- though he wasn't much fond of her playing in her later "horror" films, considering it a waste of her abilities.
Beyond the kissing, I'm not familiar with any other negative opinions Bette had of Eddie. I do know she vacillated in her feelings towards Bogart.

Stone, I've often wondered what the stars REALLY thought about Bette Davis? It could not have been all peaches and cream, ala Bogart etc.

A great picture of James Cagney and Olivia de Havilland. Although James is listed as the star of the show, he was easily overshadowed by Olivia. But of course I may be biased, I have 36 of Olivia`s films.
Re: *CANDIDS*
Fossy, sounds like you have an impressive collection of de Havilland films. Do you have "The Dark Mirror" (1946)? I've been waiting to see that movie on TCM.
