Re: Ida Lupino
I caught Woman in Hiding. It was fine, but not really that suspenseful or exciting. I did notice the stairwell shot, that was nicely done.
I do want to get the TCM box set, Women in Danger, when I can afford it (how I wish they'd spread the distribution out to other outlets).

Jackie, she was wonderful in "The Sixteen Millimeter Shrine." I enjoyed it immensely.

Oh, my gosh! That's Daniella Bianchi, isn't it? She's my favorite Bond girl!

That guy behind Daniella whispering sweet nothings in her ear is not too shabby either, MIss G.RedRiver wrote:Miss G, I adore your new avatar!

I'm not sure, the Women in Danger set only just came out yet they showed The Unguarded Moment several months ago and now Woman in Hiding. I'm wondering if Woman on the Beach is on the horizon. I haven't seen that movie in 15 years or more, but it was my first glimpse of Jeff Chandler and I never forgot it.

Besides being my favorite Bond movie, I love that the picture is rather sweet.
Tatiana: Horrible, horrible woman.
James Bond: Yes, she had her kicks.

Re: Ida Lupino
PULPY is the perfect adjective to describe The Unguarded Moment. Even the garish colors of the cinematography are straight from the dustjacket of a lurid thriller. I have to admit it is my favorite Esther Williams movie by a mile---and not a swimming pool in sight!RedRiver wrote:I'd like to see those films. They sound deliciously pulpy!

Yes, Goddess, the best thing Esther Williams ever did!. I never cared much for her (maybe it was the stupid movies she was in) until she started turning up in interviews talking about "the old days". What a treat to see that she is actually a smart woman with a great sense of humor!

It's Sean Connery's favorite as well. You have to admire a theme song that can employ the words "tongue-tied young pride" and not sound ridiculous!

Ah, yes, the song. The songS...the Bond movies spawned more great pop songs than any other franchise...some of which I like even better than the films themselves.RedRiver wrote:Besides being my favorite Bond movie, I love that the picture is rather sweet.

In the never-ending quest for Continuing Cinema Education, I signed up for a class that starts in 10 days: Director Ida Lupino and the Dark Edges of Social Life. Looking forward most for discussion of NOT WANTED and THE BIGAMIST.

Re: Ida Lupino
And, as luck would have it, it's the same instructor (I suggested that she follow up with a class on Director Lupino...and she asked me yesterday if I had some of the films she wants to show. And, as luck would have it again, I have all but one.)
