Yes, it was repeat, don't know how I missed it the first time. I've watched two of his Ivor Novello movies, The Lodger is a fabuluous movie.

John Laurie pops up all over the place, always recogniseable.

Novello isn't someone you think of as a Hitchcock adventure hero like Grant, Stewart or Donat. I wonder if he was cast because he was the biggest name around at the time in the UK

Probably but like you say, he's not the kid of man now associated with Hitchcock. The Lodger is great, if you get a chance to view it, you must.
