Re: Sue Sue's TCM Film Festival Tidbit Travel Blog
The e-mail update from the festival folks said this today:
Please note: For those attending in person, the Festival will no longer produce a full printed guide. A printed schedule grid and venue map will be available for those who request them.
Count me as one of the disappointed folks. I look forward to reading the write-ups in the festival guide each year.

The silver lining for me is that this is my first festival, so I don't know what I'm missing. I was happy that they finally posted a .pdf of the schedule on the website. Though I had to use the snip it tool and stretch it so that it printed on two pages and not part of one page, with most of Saturday and all of Sunday cut-off.

Thanks for the heads-up. I typed everything into 4 spreadsheets and made my own grid schedule. I kept checking for a schedule grid after the schedule was published, but stopped after a couple days.speedracer5 wrote: ↑March 31st, 2023, 3:36 pm The silver lining for me is that this is my first festival, so I don't know what I'm missing. I made my own schedule in Excel on the day the schedule was released too. It was too much of a brain burner for me to think about which movies overlapped and when. I still printed out TCM's schedule though because it looks better than mine and in case I made a mistake, I'd rather use TCM's.txfilmfan wrote: ↑March 31st, 2023, 4:39 pmThanks for the heads-up. When are you going to be in town? I am flying in from Portland on April 9, but will be in Hollywood from April 10-17. We are spending 2 days/1 night at the beach before going to Hollywood. Then I have a jam-packed schedule until it's time to go home.

Now our plans have changed slightly and we'll be at Disneyland on the 9th and 10th and in Hollywood on the 11th. We traded the beach for Disney. Our 12th is jam-packed. My husband and I are attending a breakfast at LA Breakfast Club w/ Eddie Muller as guest speaker at 6:45am, then we're doing a WB Studio Tour at 10, then we're attending an event at the Heritage museum as part of the TCMFF Facebook Group, then we have Musso & Frank reservations at 7:30pm.txfilmfan wrote: ↑March 31st, 2023, 7:10 pmI'll be there from the 12th to the 17th. That is busy. We did Disneyland a few years back at the beginning of a TCMFF trip - flew into SNA and out of BUR. Have also done Universal on the Wednesday before, as it's a very quick Metro ride up to Universal (2 stops, IIRC) and only takes a little more than a half day to do everything. Might do the WB tour, if there are slots still open. Toured the Academy museum last year. Don't feel the need to revisit anytime soon, but my opinion seems to be in the minority.speedracer5 wrote: ↑April 3rd, 2023, 9:42 pmNow our plans have changed slightly and we'll be at Disneyland on the 9th and 10th and in Hollywood on the 11th. Re: Sue Sue's TCM Film Festival Tidbit Travel Blog
We toured the Academy museum in October 2021 mainly to see the Hayao Miyazaki exhibit--which was amazing. However, I agree with you. Without that exhibit, we didn't feel the need to revisit the museum. They have a Casablanca exhibit that interests me; but I imagine that I'll get my Casablanca fix at the WB Studio Tour, so I'm okay with not going to the museum. I've also been to the Hollywood Museum in the Max Factor building when they had a Lucille Ball/I Love Lucy exhibit for its 60th anniversary. I can't imagine that the museum has changed that much; so it isn't on the top of the list. The WB Studio Tour is the only thing that we're doing that offers a TCMFF discount. If we go to the TCMFF next year, we probably won't do the tour again; as I imagine it would be roughly the same.txfilmfan wrote: ↑April 3rd, 2023, 10:55 pmThat is busy. Have also been to the Hollywood Museum/Max Factor building, about five years ago. There was still a lot of Lucille Ball memorabilia there, since she was a client and Max Factor was the one that made her hair red.speedracer5 wrote: ↑April 3rd, 2023, 11:13 pmWe toured the Academy museum in October 2021 mainly to see the Hayao Miyazaki exhibit--which was amazing. BTW, besides the various former Desilu studio locations around LA, they also had offices at 7046 Hollywood Blvd, Suite 515, which is in the same block as the Roosevelt Hotel. This building also housed the AMPAS HQs at one time too.
