What Happened To Deanna Durbin

Every single musical biography of performers and songwriters that I have seen, and there were very many, had "Cameos" from just about every major musical star around. But not one appearance from Deanna Durbin. Why not? Was it her studio, Universal. Or her controlling team like parents or managers, agents or what else.

Judy, Mickey, Cyd, Vera, Gene, Katherine, Jane, June, Ann, Lena, Howard, Tony, and so many others have appeared as guests in other movies in cameos. Deanna Durbin has never appeared in any movie, concert, or even a benefit where she was filmed for preservation except her own movies. Why? Have we lost this fact about her and could it be a root cause for Deanna to leave the industry so abruptly? Who was suppressing Deanna Durbin? Is there something else about her that no one knows and could it be so damaging to her career that she decided to end it quickly in mystery?

The big question again -- Why is there NO film of Deanna Durbin available for viewing except her produced personal 21 movies? The only movie she ever made with another female star was her first short movie "Every Sunday" with an also young Judy Garland. There are still shots of her radio show days but never a moving picture piece. Radio days are available for audio but never a movie promo.

WHY? WHY? WHY?

Why were four replies to this discussion deleted?

I'm not sure what happened here, Stevie, but I replied yesterday to your almost identical query about Deanna Durbin's retirement here, which you posted on August 20th under The People of Film section.

Could that be the thread and replies that you are looking for?

Yes, that is it. I apologize for being geriatric. I do not lose my way on purpose but occasionally it gets me.

No worries, Steve. I forget which section I posted something in all the time.

Btw, I like your current signature line: "Great Marriages Are Made In Heaven, So Is Thunder and Lightning"

Was it from Chekov, Lehar or Lubitsch?

I wonder if it was from Chekov, Lehar or Lubitsch? It's so true!

It actually came from a stitched framed statement given to us by a friend to hang on our wall. I liked it a lot so I adopted it.
