The Trap (1966)

This is a harrowing but remarkable movie about a backwoods trapper named La Bete (Oliver Reed at his sensitive, beastly beast) who takes a mute girl (Rita Tushingham, whose eloquent face didn't need words) as his unwilling wife to live with him in his remote cabin in the woods. It's a very exciting film as they try to carve out a life in the wilds of Canada that I've never forgotten (in part because WOR in NYC used to run this movie for days on end). A cult favorite, it is apparently never broadcast anymore and hard to find, though I have read that there is a fairly good German DVD.

P.S. Maybe this is a good movie to see when it is very hot?
