English Actors with Oscars

Post by dickson »

The following English actors won Oscars but were not present at the awards. Thus there doesn't seem to be any photos of them, that I can find, with their awards.

They are:

Charles Laughton
Robert Donat
Hugh Griffith
Paul Scofield

Anyone have any photos?

I don't have photos, but I love the lineup! What did Hugh Griffith win for? He's one of my very favorite character actors, so impish with those enormous fluffy eyebrows.

Hugh Griffith won best supporting actor in 1959 for Ben Hur.

Laurence Oliver won one didn't he for playing Hamlet or did he only win for directing? I didn't think he attended, having said that I couldn't see him missing that kind of bash.

I have never been able to get through that version. And I love Hugh. I may never make it to his performance. :)

Ronald Colman was at the Academy Awards. There are pictures of him, Loretta Young, Edmund Gwenn and Celeste Holm.

Olivier was not in attendence, but there are photos of him being presented with them in England later.
