Back to westerns on one of the saddest notes we've ever had.
It's already been commented on the TCM thread, but I believe it also belongs here, the fact that Harry Carey, Jr. has died. We western fans will really miss him although he's been away for a few years now, but knowing he will never return makes it a little more sorrowful.
We all know who he is and knowing his roles for John Ford made us appreciate his affable ways as well as his acting technique, and his horsemanship.
Once again, thank the Lord we have these old classic movies and T.V. shows to remember him by.

He was a great Character Actor for all the roles that he worked for John Ford ... I like him too.

I am very sorry to hear that. His book is one of my all time favourites and I always had a smile when he turned up on any of the old western shows.
It seemed like he was a lovely man

I never met the man, but I corresponded briefly by email. He was as kind and good as you imagine him.

I was so sad to hear about Dobe's passing yesterday. I wrote a piece about him in the Gone With or Without Fanfare thread but wanted to include this link:
to the piece I wrote a few years ago about meeting Dobe and visiting the family home in Castaic.

I have some other publicity photos from Ride a Northbound Horse and wasn't planning right now to post them but I scanned this one in today so I could use it for the banner photo. The other photos are a mix of stuff I had already posted and some new photos either scanned or screencapped this afternoon. The AMC interview is available on DVD and is a lot of fun to watch to see Ben and Dobe together. It's heavy on stories from their Ford days though there wasn't much that was new -- but it was interesting seeing them saying it instead of just reading it in a book or magazine article. The last fourth of the hour-long interview finally got into their later careers, including when Ben won the Oscar.

Paula that was a wonderful tribute. Nicely said! And Goddess, that was a beautiful slide show over at Directed by John Ford.
Anne, I wanted to say thank you for starting this thread ... I enjoyed reading and seeing great pictures of all MEMBERS that contributed here. DOBE is a wonderful decent human being and a terrific actor that worked with the legendary JOHN FORD.

I hope TCM has a special remembrance day with Harry Carey Jr.'s films... if anyone sees info about such a schedule, please post it here. Will they add Dobe to their "TCM Remembers 2012" video? I sure hope so.
