The June 2013 TCM Schedule is available below. As Star of the Month, the interesting career of Eleanor Parker is examined with 28 movies airing, beginning on Mondays. Among the films are the classic Caged (1950), which was examined here by Alan K. Rode, and 1957's psychological drama from Hugo Haas, Lizzie (which only Miss Goddess & I seem to think is well worth seeing...and may be better than that other, more famed schizophrenia story,The Three Faces of Eve).

Yay! Now I can finally record LIZZIE. Yes, I prefer it to "Eve", I admit. It offers a rare non-villainous feature film role for Richard Boone, who plays Eleanor's psychiatrist (his medical series for television, "Medic", had just ended its successful run) and by now Eleanor had shown she could portray "tormented" as well as anyone.

P.S. I didn't realize that Lizzie was released a few months before 3 Faces of Eve. I'm not sure when each went into production, but it's clear that Eve garnered all the acclaim while this movie was mostly forgotten.

The showing of LIZZIE is fantastic news. I've developed a major obsession with Hugo Haas as a director over the past year, having seen about 50% of his U.S. output, but LIZZIE has eluded me.

And Dewey is showing PICKUP on Friday. I've seen it, but never with Beverly Michaels in all of her Big Screen glory.

Hi,

Very happy Eleanor Parker is being recognized and featured prominently in June....

And, overjoyed that Paulette Goddard's birthday, June 3rd, is tributed!!
I have never seen "Dramatic School" and since it would be Paulette's 103rd birthday; and Luise Rainer is 103; and Lana Turner is in it - I will have a banana split and watch it!!!!
I've never seen "Second Chorus" either, so will view that too.
And, at the premier of "An Ideal Husband" in London is where I first met Paulette, so have to see that again.
Watch for her in a large ermine skin coat in that picture - she wore it to The Savoy Hotel premier night and bundled me into it with her. We were fast friends evermore after that !!!

Larry, how lucky you are. Thanks for sharing more of your memories.

Can't wait to meet you next year!

Chio and Miss G., I have never seen Eleanor Parker in Lizzie, and put it on my list of "Things I Must Do!"

Oh this is exciting news! Maven and I were just discussing how good Eleanor Parker was yesterday and I had no idea she would be star of the month. I've never seen Lizzie or Pickup.

OMG!!!! Eleanor Parker. Wendy, you & I really WERE just talking about her! ( This is crazy...and spooky!!! ) I'm really going to try and sit down and explore her work in June. I think she is an Actress of such depth, ( didn't trade in on her gorgeous looks ) but fell between the cracks of Bombshells, Divas, Volcanoes and Girls-next-door. THANK YOU TCM!!!

Clear your DVRs folks and make room for Miss Eleanor Parker!!

Isn't it crazy? Maybe WE conjured her stint on TCM up with our talk....

I agree about how she fell through the cracks, she looks like a STAR and is BEAUTIFUL in a star way, and yet, she ACTS like a character actress and she can be quite powerful. How come no one thinks of her like they think of Ingrid Bergman? Why didn't they hype her to the hilt ? 'SEE what WE'VE got...a babe-a-licious glamour gal who can ACT.'

Who said the Moguls In Suits were Smart? ( Ack! ) ( And  )

Saw some of "Spellbound" last night when I got in. Ingrid Bergman is really a special kind of actress. I think she is one of the most natural actresses I've ever seen. I know what you said, Wendy, about her being a bad girl in "Notorious." But that vulnerable, love-sick, love-tortured girl is the heart clincher, for me. I hate and love to see it.

Does that make any movie sense...or should I just stick to talking about doggies?

( Heh! Heh! )

I'm SO looking forward to Eleanor Parker as SOTM in June! For years, I only knew her as the Baroness Elsa in The Sound of Music. Then a few years ago, I saw her in Interrupted Melody and The Voice of the Turtle and I realized what a fine actress she was, as well as being beautiful.

Also--fellow Ohioan!

Maven, I know exactly what you mean! I just love her trying to be hard - all sloppy and drunk and alienated. She looked GORGEOUS in Spellbound, didn't she? I liked the scene between her and the vampish girl at the beginning of the movie.

Uh-hunh! She's with Rhonda Fleming...and vamp is a polite word for her "malady." :)

Was that Rhonda? Well whaddya know! She was all blonde looking and trampy, and I had a feeling that male psychiatrist that was Ingrid's co-worker was not going to maintain that professional demeanor forever.

Hey, JF!

Are you backsliding? Watching a movie (other than CAPE FEAR) starring you-know-who?

Please come to Chicago upon my return. A free counseling session is available.
