Classic Film Art Forum FAQ

Well, I guess a little explanation is in order here since this forum was sorta 'my baby'.

I have always wanted a place where people who do any sort of art related to classic film can share their stuff. Most of use who DO art, you see, do it not only for ourselves to enjoy, but others as well.

In my own case, I do alot of work in PhotoShop. Avatars, banners, desktops - you name it, I do it.

The reason I got into PhotoShop was simple - I found there to be a real shortage of quality desktops out there related to classic film. I wanted something with a little 'zip' to it...but there was no 'zip' to be had.

And so, I decided to learn PhotoShop and make my own. :D

I've been at it for less than a year, but have spent a fair number of hours at it...and hopefully at this point, my stuff is to the point where it doesn't suck.

And so, I've been sharing my stuff with others and taking requests for avatars and such - mainly at other boards - for a few months now.

Anyway, I'll be posting projects in here from time to time...and all who would like copies of desktops, avatars, etc, are more than welcome to help yourself (or in the case of desktops, PM me and I'll send you the desktop at actual size as I'll be posting thumbnails here).

I would encourage others who do any sort of art - be that photography, drawing, painting, graphics, writing, or anything else creative to post their work here with me and hopefully we can share tips and have a bit of fun while sharing our work with others.

Anyway...enjoy! :)

This sounds great!
Can you find me a photo of Ginger Rogers as Sue Sue in The Major and The Minor?
I'd love to have her as an avatar.

Thank you!

Humm....well, I've not seen that film yet, so I wouldn't know a photo of her in that film if I saw one.

However, if someone provides me a photo from that film, I can make it into a nice avatar for you! :)

I can check - if there is a Ginger Rogers website (which there is bound to be) maybe there is a photo there. Or there are a couple of other places I can look. But unless they are specifically labeled as coming from that film, I won't know one if I saw it.

Lemme see what I can come up with. And if anyone else has a photo of her from that film handy, if they post it, I will gladly make it into an avatar for you! :)

Hi Sue Sue -
I threw this together quickly but I bet pktrekgirl could do a better job.

I am no photoshopper. Just fooling around with my own photo-image software.

^ If those are pictures from the film Sue requested, why don't you post the larger version and I can clean it up - make it clearer and play around with it a bit?

Hi pkterekgirl -
I have uploaded the original files to the Photo Gallery. I believe they are accessable to you from the gallery page Otherwise, try using this link -

I am learning all the ins and outs of the Gallery set-up. Hmmm.

Sorry they are so small. But I bet you can work some magic that will make Christy happy.

Hi Kyle,

Hope you like how I finished up our project! Such pretty colors of pink worked out well, IMO. :)

I am very impressed with all the work you 've done around here. From Christy's "Sue Sue" to the depixilated BobHopeFan avatar. You are quite the talent.

And I enjoyed our group effort very much. Hopefully we can work together again! (I have a large collection of stills and protraits on my hard drive. If you are looking for anything, just ask.)

I still totally adore my avatar. It's gorgeous. Ginger would be pleased, too!
Thanks so much to you all.

Pktrekgirl, are you still interested in Ronald Coleman pics? I found a few nice ones. Let me know if you want them.

I am a re-editor of movie posters, far less than even PhotoShoppers. My goal is to create DVD Label Art so I can print onto my DVD-Rs that I travel with, rather than insist that I patiently hand-scrawl legibie film names, actors and release-years onto them. That's just too much for me to ask.

So I'm always looking for film poster sites. Thanks for these listed here, and I hope none will mind that I'm using them for my own fiendish purposes. ("Oh lookee! I can actually tell what THIS DVD-R has on it!!")

In my usual scourings, I'm finding a few good sites for movie posters and film stills. Back Alley Noir:

http://filmnoir.suddenlaunch3.com/index.cgi?board=video

has about 28 pages of film posters, but some nicely unique Men & Women Of Noir stills.
