Re: SPOILERS!
Yes, the movie is indeed THE LAST PICTURE SHOW.
In the final scene (before the dissolve to the town) Ruth Popper (played by Cloris Leachman) is comforting Sonny Crawford (played by Timothy Bottoms), who is grieving the death of his friend Billy. Ruth is the wife of the high school coach. She was having an affair with Sonny before he jilted her to date the high school girl played by Cybill Shepherd.
Cloris Leachman won the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her performance in the movie, competing against her co-star Ellen Burstyn in that category.
Sonny's friend Billy was played by Sam Bottoms, who was the brother of Timothy Bottoms.
It's your turn, skimpole, to try to stump us with a spoiler.

Kay, ANTHONY ADVERSE is not the movie I have in mind, but it is a good one. I especially enjoy Claude Rains in that one.KayFrancis wrote: ↑April 8th, 2024, 8:53 pmAnthony Adverse?HoldenIsHere wrote: ↑April 8th, 2024, 3:43 pm Next:

In the movie I have in mind, the title character is traveling alone on the sailing vessel bound for America. Anthony Adverse is traveling with his son.
I probably should have included traveling alone (meaning no traveling companions) as part of the spoiler.
But you are entitled to a clue now since you tried to answer.
Clue: The title character is a female.

Re: SPOILERS!
At the end of SISTER KENNY, do we actually see her on a ship sailing to America?
I have never seen that movie so I don't know.
(It's not the movie I had in mind.)
Re: SPOILERS!
About 15 minutes before the end of the film, we see the ship on the high seas, followed by her disembarking in America. (One of Rosalind Russell's greatest performances.) Her travel to America is an "important plot point," as it's there -- in Minneapolis -- that she finally receives acclaim.HoldenIsHere wrote: ↑April 9th, 2024, 6:32 pmAt the end of SISTER KENNY, do we actually see her on a ship sailing to America?

Do we get another clue?
She is already in America at the end, and is giving a lecture.
So the scene on the ship is not the coda of the movie as it is is the movie I have in mind.
So to (hopefully) make the spolier only pertain to one possible movie:
When the movie ends, the title character is seen traveling alone (without traveling companions) on a sailing vesssel bound for America.
First clue: The title character is a female.
New clue: The character is not an historical person, but rather a fictitious person.
Re: SPOILERS!
Thanks. Your OP says ending "or other important plot development." I think many of us have sometimes offered either in our clues, as set forth in your OP.HoldenIsHere wrote: ↑April 9th, 2024, 6:58 pmI found a clip of the end of SISTER KENNY.Swithin wrote: ↑April 9th, 2024, 6:41 pmAbout 15 minutes before the end of the film, we see the ship on the high seas, followed by her disembarking in America.
