Of Time and the City

One of my favorite documentaries is Of Time and the City (2008), written, directed, and narrated by Terence Davies. It's a deeply personal look at Liverpool, Davies' home town. Elegiac at times, it covers everything from the director's childhood, visits to the beach, the war, the Beatles, church, and the people of Davies' youth, going about their business in their home town. The film includes evocative footage and, as with all Davies films, beautiful music.
