"Dodsworth". Stunning film. Absolutely.
Much as I love Hugh Griffith's performance in Ben-Hur, I think Robert Vaughn should have won the Best Supporting Actor Oscar in 1958, for his brilliant performance in The Young Philadelphians.skimpole wrote: ↑June 12th, 2023, 2:28 am Let's look at 1959. Here are the Academy's Choices

With that in mind, who would the Academy have chosen? With Stewart getting almost certainly winning last year, he's not likely to win another award. And it's hard to see why the Academy could miss up the opportunity to honor Grant. For Actress, Saint had already won an award for On the Waterfront, so I think Monroe's only rival is Turner, and one would think the Stomponato affair would hamper Turner. Would Mason walk away with best supporting prize? Scott was the only one the Academy nominated, and Brown is both the long-serving actor with the light comedic role one would think the Academy is easily sentimental to. For Supporting Actress, Moore was the only one the Academy nominated. But Remick has a larger role, and Tagore is the one actress from a best picture nominee, and from the third part of a trilogy whose previous two films the Academy has nominated. I suspect the Academy would choose Moore.
