I know exactly what you mean...those kind of movies are best seen in a theater, you need that immersive experience. I drove 90 minutes just to see Clockwork Orange at the Eastman House and it was worth it.
I'm waiting for Eraserhead to show somewhere, I just can't get into it viewing at home, alone.
Actually Tiki, my inability to get past the first few minutes or so of A Clockwork Orange has little to do with any attempts to watch it on the small screen, but really more to do with the idea that I always found the opening scene that contains that high degree of violence perpetrated upon that poor homeless drunk as being too repulsive for my tastes.

Although, I still think there might soon come a day in which I'll be able to stick it out all the way through this tale of what I understand to be Kubrick's thesis on the idea of governmental overreach and its means to aquire "acceptable behavior" among the masses.

The ultraviolence only gets worse as the movie goes on, but OTOH one misses the naughty bits bits. In most cases of violence
in movies I take the Alfred Hitchcock approach--It's only a movie, Ingrid.

The Birds was filmed not far from me in Bodega Bay.
I can't watch it again as I don't have a TV under my bed.
It is a terrifying film.
There are plenty of Hitchcock films I can enjoy.

I suppose the concept is scary in theory and Melanie really gets mauled by the birds, though opening the door was a dumb
move, but I never found The Birds very frightening because the idea of birds suddenly coming together en masse and attacking
humans is so far out there it's hard to take it seriously. Maybe being from that area makes it seem more spooky. It's pretty good
and the only time I can remember Hitchcok doing a movie with a sci-fi element.

The Birds did scare me when I saw it at the age of 13.

But not after I reached the age of 16 and realized how far-fetched it was.

All the nature strikes back films of the 60's and 70's were too silly to stimulate any real fear.

I'm 65 and it isn't a movie I care to see again.
Rear Window is a wonderful movie.
Maybe I dig Jimmy Stewart films.

I always thought the birds in BARBARELLA were scarier that the birds in THE BIRDS.

And that the dolls in BARBARELLA were scarier than the birds in BARBARELLA.

I was too preoccupied with lusting for Jane to notice those scary things.

I haven't seen Barbarella in a while, but the birds were kind of scary, maybe because there was no long,
gradual build up like there was in The Birds.

The parakeets in Barbarella are so cute! A few years ago, my husband, sister and I went to the aquarium in Long Beach and there was a Lorikeet area. You could buy some nectar and be swarmed by Lorikeets. At one point my husband had at least 10 birds on him, lol.

The dolls and kids in Barbarella are far creepier than the birds, imo.

I know about Barbarella based on TCM promos, meaning I've not seen it.
Guess all I missed is a sexy Jane Fonda.
She still looks good. It just takes longer for her to get that way.
I'm eager to see her latest film when it comes to my TV set.

There are few women who have remained so beautiful for as long as she.

It seems that all those workouts she did in the 80's are really paying off.

Yes, the parakeets in BARBARELLA were cute. (I am a bird lover and have 2 green-cheeked conures --- or actually they have me.)

What was scary about those parakeets was how those cute birds attacked and drew blood from Barbarella,

And, yes those kids were super creepy!

Come to think of it, I've never seen EXODUS. Nope, don't know why.
