Is a fast paced witty noirish mystery - chase film with Mitchum up against Wiiliam Bendix, Ptric Knowles, and John Qualen ( what ) and Ms greer. It is great fun, from RKO with Don Siegel directing, one of his best and earliest. :? l

Actually, of Mitchum's 4 "Mexican Visit" noirs, this is the one I liked least;
mind you, though, it's still a Mitchum noir, set (mostly) in Mexico, and co-starring Bendix, meaning chances are good that it's automatically superior to 98.5% of anything else being broadcast at that moment, so as criticisms go, that's pretty sanguine!
Still, though, I gotta confess, the first thing that always pops into my mind about "Big Steal" is that this is the one whose filming was interrupted for over a month by Mitchum's incarceration on the marijuana charge!
