Ben Matlock is from Mt. Harlan, Georgia.
Unlike towns in Minnesota used in Little House on the Prairie, Mt. Harlan does not exist.
He told Julie March she did not have "grits in her voice."
In the trailer, "Maddie" mentions Hoboken, NJ.
Kathy is from Memphis.
It will be interesting to see how many Matlock comparisons there will be in the show.
Matlock was on ABC and NBC. Now Maddie, don't think she will mind if I call her that, is on CBS.
I think there was one Captain Kirk gag on Boston Legal.
I can help but only consider CBS is using the Matlock name to peak curiosities for the show.
Once the hook is set, and I think it will be, the great looking cast will just reel in the ratings.
This is different than bringing back Murphy Brown.
I want it too succeed, so I guess there is no choice but to watch.
Like Murder, She Wrote, following 60 Minutes is a considerable plus.

...If moderators and admins were not identified at TCM, then I suspect (I've never been there) that it's because they weren't also active board participants.
Yep Lomm, you're right. The moderator or moderators over on the old TCM boards were never actice participants.

However, I DO remember somebody starting a rumor over there that at least one of 'em probably looked like THIS anyway...

Lomm ... I realize we already know who our Moderator is.
I noticed early on, here at the Oasis, Admin was called ... Admin.
I sometimes click on a thread versus the last post, and take an amazing trip back in time.
I only know two Administration people. You Lomm and Sue Sue.
I don't know her but remember her from the TCM forum.
Also know TikiSoo from the TCM forum.
I think Dargo is like Norm on Cheers. He came with the place. TCM's forum that is.
I only remember Mod1 over at TCM.
Intrepid37 says it was a female.
She treated dirt better than me.
I believe SSO is where everyone should have been versus the TCM forum.
This forum appears to date back to at least 2007.
My point would have to be, issue a Moderator title versus their posting handle.
Maybe the same thing for you Administration people.
I'm guessing this forum did not have issues years back.
You (Lomm) have claimed more bickering than ever before.

Hmmm...never thought about this before jimimac, but maybe you're onto somethin' with this?!

I mean, sure, while I really have only ever had a passing interest in beer AND think I'm in a lot better shape than Norm, I DO often seem to have the very same opinion about the world that he expresses here anyway...

E.g., will there be a son or daughter that helps Matlock work things out?

Dargo … One of Norm’s best lines.
You may remember when he was, “The skinny guy at the end of bar.”
I kind of suspect you were at the TCM forum early on.
That’s my point.
One of the best episodes is when Norm gets a job at the brewery.
jimimac71 loves “Colorado Kool-Aid.”
I’m sure you know me well enough to know that’s a song title.
The B-side of “Take This Job And Shove It,” by Johnny Paycheck.
Ben Matlock drank Napoleon Brandy once in an early episode with Dick Van Dyke.
First Episode, First Season after the Two-Part Pilot.
Otherwise, white wine or Champagne.
White wine with Don Knott’s character.
Don/Les said “buck-seventy-five.”
Champagne with his favorite lady, Julie, played by Julie Sommars.
So far, Madeline only drinks Scotch with Mr. Lucky.

James: I would guess differently.
Ben was the top dog.
Madeline is the new kid on the block.
I feel she will develop close relationships with those who may doubt the senior citizen lady is worth her salt.
Ben started off with his daughter and a private investigator.
But you could easily be right James.
If the writers need a boost, anything is possible.
I know, jimimac71 is a PITA Ben Matlock know-it-all.
I gotta be good at sumpin’.

Note that I only asked a question related to if there would be a son or daughter sidekick.

I'm interested in your speculation since you know the show and character so well: "It will be interesting to see how many Matlock comparisons there will be in the show": thus, what type of 'comparisons' are you anticipating?

I can’t speculate.
The new Matlock should not have too much in common with the old one.
Ben Matlock had two daughters. No sons.
He was also frequently surrounded by good looking ladies.
He had two different private investigators. Both were men of color.
Then, toward the end, a lovely lady investigator, and the son of his love/hate pal from his early life.
Ben never spoke of grand children. Didn’t have any.
The first daughter and second daughter were not in the show at the same time.
The second daughter was divorced.
I know the old show intimately. Andy Griffith reminds Mom of my late stepdad.
Ben Matlock was the best of all the work Andy Griffith did. Just my opinion.
Ben Matlock was a widower.
I don’t know anything yet about Madeline Matlock.
Like everyone else, a three minute trailer.
How many people know the old Matlock?
Anyone who is curious, can watch Matlock on MeTV or Hallmark Drama.
It streams on Pluto TV.
(Another thing about Ben versus Madeline).
Ben was a defense attorney. Most episodes involved a murder.
Think of Ben like Jessica Fletcher, solving a crime.
Just like Jessica, Ben would find a clue to save his client, towards the end of the show.
Like Jessica, Ben wouldn't reveal what he knew until the end.
I believe Madeline will be a lawyer like Alan Shore (James Spader) from Boston Legal.

jimimac71 wrote: July 4th, 2023, 5:45 pm Holden ... Here two links (I hope) to Matlock On Demand with Pluto TV:
https://pluto.tv/en/on-demand/series/60 ... 00139e311e
https://pluto.tv/en/on-demand/series/60 ... 0013f321ba
They are tricky, at least on my computer, as Pluto TV is really slow to respond.
Steve Witting plays young Ben Matlock and Andy Griffith is his father Charlie.
You can get a little bit just by watching the episode preview.
Steve Witting is in 4 episodes of Matlock, which means there are 2 more where Andy Griffith plays Charlie Matlock.
It does sound like Charlie Matlock speaks different than Ben.
Thanks, jimimac, for this information.

Before you saw this, I had discovered that MATLOCK was available On Demand on Pluto and had watched the first episode "The Judge." What a cast in that one! in addition to Andy Griffith as Ben Matlock, there's Dick Van Dyke as the titular judge and the great Piper Laurie as the mother of the murder victim.
It was very entertaining. I look forward to watching more episodes. I plan on showing it to the sweetie, who enjoys detective shows like POIROT. With MATLOCK, the audience knows early on "who done it," but the fun is seeing how Ben Matlock is going to expose the truth. It's a similar format as the British series PRIME SUSPECT starring Helen Mirren as Detective Chief Inspector Jane Tennison.

I also watched the episode you recommended "The Dame" where Andy Griffith plays Ben Matlock's father Charlie, who is a hoot! I'm glad there are more episodes with Charlie Matlock.

Yes Holden, Matlock, like Murder, She Wrote, was good at getting stars in their shows. In The Heat of the Night as well.
Pluto doesn't have the original pilot, "Diary of a Perfect Murder."
It is on YouTube, but the quality is only 360p.
I will keep an eye out for it on MeTV. I don't have Hallmark Drama but will check it's schedule.
Lori Lethin was Ben's daughter Charlene only in the pilot, then the lovely Linda Purl.
Keep your eyes out for Uncle Miltie.
You won't always know who the bad person is.
EDIT:
I deleted the video that was here as good old YouTube deleted it first.
I sort of promised to alert readers (above) to when MeTV would show "Diary of a Perfect Murder."
Well, that day has come.
Part One is on Wednesday November 8th at 10 AM Pacific Time. Not sure how the other time zones work.
Part Two on the 9th.
Who knows how long the new Matlock with Kathy Bates will have to wait.

According to CBS's website, the new MATLOCK series is "coming soon," with no dates specified.

They likely had only one episode completed before the writers' strike put production on hold.

Does this mean that twenty or thirty years from now people will be making jokes about
old folks watching the Matlock reboot?
