Re: Danny Kaye Today!
SueSue, I really enjoyed Danny's Day. My favorite as a tyke and teen was HANS CHRISTIAN ANDERSON and I still love singing along to "Wonderful, Wonderful Copenhagen". Great tunes over-all but Joey Walsh still gives me the creeps, lol. I re-visited UP IN ARMS, THE SECRET LIFE OF WALTER MITTY...

Re: The January 2013 TCM Schedule
I've been pronouncing it wrong too, Bronxie, if Melina is to be trusted.... I love that trailer, everything about it, except for the conspicuous lack of Maximilian Schell scenes shown. You'd think they'd have wanted to capitalize on his good looks. It's one of my very favorite movies and was my int...

Re: Bad Movies You Love
kingme, AIRPORT 1975 is entertaining. And they use a real 747! At least I can get through it without feeling queasy (and needing a Myrna Loy boilermaker) like with THE BABY, lol.

Re: Bad Movies You Love
Jackie, yes, Alexis is in STEEL AGAINST THE SKY. But she always looks more comfortable in noir. I'd love to hear Stan and Ollie in those other two languages, German and Italian. Somehow I think German would suit Ollie best, when he's railing against Laurel. I love how they got the perfect Mae Busch-...

I recently saw AIRPORT 1975 for the first time.
Glorious Badness.

Re: The January 2013 TCM Schedule
I always find it fun to listen to the different ways people pronounce RIFIFFI and TOPKAPI. :) I like the TOPKAPI trailer, and never realized I've been pronouncing Peter Ustinov's name wrong all these years. According to Melina, it's "Oooh-TEE-nov". (I guess much like Akim Tah-MEER-off) I'...

Re: Bad Movies You Love
Lloyd Nolan and nice pits don't automatically become synonymous in my mind, but he does look good in this movie! This is the one that's a remake of the Jimmy Cagney Pat O'Brien THE IRISH IN US, I think? Almost a shot for shot steal in that underwear scene. I can't think of anyone who is better at p...

Re: Bad Movies You Love
I for one supports BronxGirl48's assessment that Victor Mature was an underrated actor. :) I know I'm not alone in this, king, and that makes me happy, because Victor certainly deserves praise! I tend to get his gladiator roles a bit mixed up, though; it always seems he's with Jean Simmons in ancie...

Re: Bad Movies You Love
Oh, no, Mike, did you say Arthur O'Connell is in THE VOICE IN THE MIRROR? (thanks for the title correction, moira) That ruins it for me right there, ha! But seriously, even though he gives me the willies for whatever reason, old Art has some fine performances under his belt, most notably BUS STOP. I...

Re: Bad Movies You Love
Bronxie - At last we hit on something we both watched.... er....should I say, didn't watch. I have tried 3 times to watch The Reivers , and have struck out 3 times. Apparently, just as Victor Mature before him, McQueen denigrated himself for taking on the role in this movie by saying that it would ...

Re: Bad Movies You Love
Wow, moira, thanks so much for the Egan suggestions! I'm excited to know there's some good stuff out there with him, most notably THE FACE IN THE MIRROR, which I've never even heard of. Maybe I can get lucky on YouTube.
I always thought Victor Mature was an underrated actor.

Re: Bad Movies You Love
Lyrical meditations on life, love, and Richard Egan, who would have thought, ha! Fascinating links, moira, thanks! I've only seen Richard in one movie and that would be A SUMMER PLACE, where his social skills get a wonderful workout. (sigh) He's so protective, so wise, so....hunky. An irrestistible ...

Re: Bad Movies You Love
Jackie, were you by any chance watching THE REIVERS a while back at the same time I was, lol? In an effort to add to my Steve McQueen viewing experience, I was looking forward to THE REIVERS, but was immediately turned off when I knew right off the bat that Steve woud take the boy to a bordello wher...

Re: Bad Movies You Love
moira, I can't understand any virgin struggling too hard against a fate worse than death in the arms of Richard Egan.
I even have a hard time accepting neurotic, greedy, repressed Constance Ford's rejection of him in A SUMMER PLACE.
