A Milestone Anniversary

Postby Uncle Stevie » Sun Apr 15, 2012 12:03 pm

I never imagined that in my lifetime I would achieve the distance. Today, April 15th, Rita and I are celebrating our 50th Wedding Anniversary. I am announcing this not just as a monumental achievement but as a successful fight against the odds. I read the dailies about divorce rates being so high and wondered if we did it right or wrong. Divorced individuals seem to like the freedom and versatility of multiple spouses. I never had that chance.

Strangely, I belong to a circle of friends who share my situation. I pal around with six couples all of whom are married 50 years or more. Those couples all have children who have not divorced yet either. I often wondered if we missed the "party boat". But we are happy. Old, but happy.

trust me, Unc, it IS NOT a party boat. The reality of a long term commitment to love honor and cherish another person is an outstanding and honorable achievement. Congratulations. :D

Congratulations Uncle Stevie on your Golden Wedding Anniversary! I'll celebrate 19 years this year and I hope to celebrate 50 like you! :D Nowadays sadly some young people barely reach the 3 years mark!

I've never been married. Probably never will. But if you missed the party boat, you didn't miss much. If your choices differ from those of your peers, that's probably because you made better choices.

Congratulations on a wonderful occassion!

What a wonderful and happy thing to celebrate. If you missed any boat, it was the 'I'm so lucky' one. My folks made 62 years just by 5 months when Mom passed away, but they were happy too.
