Re: MUSINGS, PONDERINGS, RUMINATIONS AND FANCIES

Besides The Best of Everything on TCM tonight, the rarely shown Lucy Gallant will be on TCM tonight at 12 am. Good cast, Jane Wyman, Charlton Heston, Claire Trevor, Thelma Ritter. Haven't seen this one in a very long time. Dang, I had hvac guys here yesterday (and back right now) to replace a heat ...

Re: I Just Watched...

AI had trouble with some tonal whiplash (perhaps because it was originally supposed to be a Kubrick project). It's a very dark story, and at times, Spielberg has it waffling toward sentiment, and I'm not sure if it fully comes off in the end. From what I read, most of the sentiment suprisingly came...

Re: I Just Watched...

I only recall seeing Cocoon once... I still kind of liked it overall, but it's not a masterpiece or anything. Agree it's not a masterpiece, but don't think it was made with aims of being anything more than a couple of hours of relaxing entertainment. Spielberg has made some great films (ET, The Col...

Wow! I wasn't keeping score, but an interesting observation! I still like your views/opinions & always welcome an opposing view. Oh I'm not keeping score either. Just funny that what we like seems to be skewed by 180°. Found that back when I was mostly just a lurker on the TCM site. Could be an...

Re: I Just Watched...

As far as I've seen in recipes, candied cherries are used in fruitcake, not Maraschino. But I'm sure some baker out there marches to a different drummer. 😄

Re: I Just Watched...

Some years I make a Southern version of fruitcake with brandy, but omit the traditional citron. Mine has tons of pecans with raisins, dried dates plus candied pineapple & cherries (red & green). Last year I made a cookie version that was a big hit with the family. Think the English versions ...

Re: I Just Watched...

The Russia House is a wonderful film with arguably the best performances of Sean Connery and Michelle Pfeiffer, and a very fine one from James Fox to go hand in hand with a strong Tom Stoppard script. And it has a great soundtrack. I've played this movie many, many times just a background when I'm ...

Re: WHAT'S HAPPENED TO KINGRAT????

Until yesterday, I hadn't posted since February 14th. I enjoy posts from Diane. I think of her when the Consumer Cellular "Butt Dial" ad comes on with the person on a tractor. You weren't the only one away from SSO then. Think I skipped my daily visits here from mid-Jan until just a few d...

Re: WHAT'S HAPPENED TO KINGRAT????

I'm curious as to why some presumably sensitive creatures don't want their names shown. But I think many of us allow our names to be shown, e.g. Swithin, Hibi, KayFrancis, Kingrat, Holden, etc. Good chance that the hidden one is me. Only reason I use the hide is 'cause I leave my SSO page up 24/7 a...
