Re: John Mills, over a dozen classic British movies

For my opening post I wanted to pay tribute the man, who I consider the greatest of all British actors working in the confines of The British Film Industry. Mills made an astonishing amount of classic British movies. He supported Robert Donat in Goodbye Mr. Chips, playing a former public school pup...

film noir

My favorite is Laura .I always thought it was noir and I am not all that educated on what makes noir but if its dark and mysterious I guess that makes it for me. I just watched Union Station on tcm this morning .Is that noir ? I thought it had a bit of comedic touch though with Barry Fitzgerald

Hey inglis, glad you are also a fan. I posted on this film for a couple of reasons: 1) I personally like the movie. It has loads of flaws, but I'm not one of those kinds of people who likes the term "Guilty Pleasure" which is often termed as an excuse to enjoy a less than perfect film. If...

Hi Judith! I have never heard of this movie you mentioned Dancing at Lughsana.is it a recent movie ? Dancing at Lughsana , by the Irish playwright Brian Friel, had a very successful run on Broadway in the 90s. It's about five unmarried sisters who live together in a small town in Ireland (I think i...

Maybe Wayne's "laughing" at his cowboy image was more modesty than any kind of embarassment. I'm sure Wayne was rightly proud of his work. He wasn't a star but Ben Johnson belongs in the true western cowboy group. 5 bonus points for using "chimerical." Hi Chris ! What was the na...

Being able to recreate the regional accents of any place is a talent in itself. We could probably come up with many actors who have that talent - Peter Sellers, for instanc...

accents

In Sophie's Choice and Out Of Africa, Meryl Streep is outstanding with her different accents and her stuck up pitch in Devil Wears Prada was excellent.

I have to say that although I love To Kill A Mockingbird .LibertyValance is my choice .If The Searchers were in the running with To Kill A Mockingbird ,it might be a different ballgame.I am a big Wayne fan so I am sticking to the Duke and Stewart in this one .
