Richard Briers and Peter Gilmore RIP

Post by stuart.uk »

Here's a little tribute to two highly regarded British actors.

The main headline on the UK news today was the death of actor Richard Briers. He may not be well known in America, but he was a young villain to Raquel Welch's heroine in Fathom and late in his career did Shakespear movies like Hamlet and Much Ado About Nothing.

However, in the UK it's his classic sit comes for which he'll be remembered Marriage Lines with Prunella Scales (Fawlty Towers and Hobsons' Choice) in the 60s, The Good Life (Good Neighbours was the U.S title) with Felicity Kendall in the 70s and Ever Decreasing Circles with Penelope Wilton (Cry Freedom) in the 80s

Peter Gilmore died a couple of weeks back, but I thought I'd pay a little tribute to him. In movie terms he played a few supporting roles in Carry On films, but it's as James Onedin in the period sailing tv drama serial The Onedin Line he's best known.

He was once married to Summer Holiday actress Una Stubbs, but his widow was Anne Stallybrass who played his first wife in The Onedin Line

Good Neighbors has always been a favorite. His goofy attempts to 'go green' were ever hilarious. RIP, Mr. Briers.
