I agree 100%.Western Guy wrote:Don't want to harp on the subject but the magic of the moviegoing experience seems to have become as extinct as the dinosaur - yet the cost to take advantage of the "privilege" has skyrocketed! And let's be honest: What's really out there worth seeing today? Films reliant more on expansive CGI than enjoyable and entertaining storylines. Or worse: brain-lame comedies, teenage (or coming-of-age) sex farces, superhero or action hero redundancy, horror sadism. And where are the great actors, those performers who actually draw you into the theater? I don't know half of the players featured in contemporary films. And some of those that I do know seem to have sold out by appearing in these so-called "entertainments".
Feel sorry for kids today. They're missing out. My memories of going to the movies were indeed magical. As I said, virtual palaces to help stimulate the experience. Big screens with curtains drawing open to heighten the anticipation. Even the popcorn tasted better. Today - with only very rare exceptions - I prefer to stay at home and watch (God bless) TCM. While my TV screen might not be so large, I never lose out on the entertainment factor because those pictures never fail to deliver.
And my homemade popcorn is pretty darn good, too.

March 5, 1936– At the Oscars Clark Gable was nominated for "Mutiny on the Bounty" and attended the event at the Biltmore with birthday gal and Best Actress nominee Merle Oberon. Neither won,

Hi Joe,
I am in a quandry regarding the photo of Clark Gable and Merle Oberon together??
Did they date or was it just a question of seating?
Gable was married to Rhea Langham at the time; and in the 50's, Merle and Rhea were great friends... It just seems 'funny' to me that "very jealous & rather vindictive Rhea" would remain friendly with a woman who dated her husband at the time...
Of course in Hollywood, who knows what went or indeed goes down anymore???

Larry, I wouldn't be surprised if Rhea was sitting opposite them at the table.

Hi Joe,
Yes, I'm sure she would be, as I can't see Rhea missing a major social event like the Oscars (unless she was ill)....
Of course, all would change in a year or so when Miss Lombard appeared!!!
